Wii will start a Revolution

and the general public HATES change.

Which is why I think the PS3 will beat out the Wii. Not only because of the Playstation brand, but the controller. And if the PS3 is popular, then Blu-Ray will have an edge. But the only way High Definition discs will succeed is if those players upscale regular DVD's to where they look really good. Many people have large DVD collections and will not be willing to rebuy many films for HD, no matter how good they look. And if the new players still make regular DVD's look fantastic, the change will be much easier.

I personally do not own an upscaling player yet, but I hope they do show an improvement over regular DVD quality. And to be honest, I think most DVD's look almost as good as HDTV. And yes I know HD discs will look better than HDTV anyways.

And that’s the same with blue ray, I just don’t think people are ready for that change yet either way. That’s why I don’t think it will get people to buy a PS3. I dont have a next gen system yet, but at x-mas time I will make a purchase. My decision will be based only on software, and at this point 360 is winning. But we will see a lot can change in 4 months.

As for the PS3 beating the wii, that could very well be its either going to do really well or not so much. But look how much better the PSP is (power wise) over the DS, and look how much more popular the DS is. Both the wii and DS are similar in that they havent been done before. And DS is a much lower price point just like the wii. In the end though its all about the games, at least for me it is.:)

Well I have no experience in hand held systems, so I can't comment on that.

The games I like to play are the sports games and GTA and they are available on 360 and PS3. So for me it comes down to controller and added features. And I personally love the Playstation controller and don't really care for the X-Box style. And getting free online gameplay on the PS3 is a big plus as well. With the $600 system, a wireless adapter is already in the system. So it would seem that it will be internet ready right out of the box (assuming you have a router set up). And this is a big factor considering I am a casual gamer and I have no intention of paying for something like X-Box Live.

The only problem is until the PS3 comes down in price you are paying for online. The extra money for the system = 4yrs of x-box live. I just wonder if the casual gamer will front that kind of money. It will be very interesting how it all plays out, the best any gamer can hope for is all systems do well. More competition = better games, more innovations...

Nope. You have to buy a wireless adapter for the 360, correct?

And if you want the HD-DVD drive added to the 360, then it is the exact same price as the PS3.

If you want wireless you do,thats right. I use a hard line because of interference problems, And I dont care about HD movies. So for me 360 is a better bet (as of now) I know the additional things the 600$ PS3 comes with, and I have not ruled out getting one, I will see at launch what games are out and will be coming out. But dont forget about the possible price drops on 360 with the new chip. So far all we have are a lot of what ifs, thats why I am gonna wait.

Well if you don't care about wireless or HD, then you could always go with the $500 PS3, if that is your choice. But really, if you don't mind the X-Box controller set up and there aren't any Sony only games that you will be interested in, it looks like the 360 is for you.

For me, if I'm going to spend a lot of money on a gaming system anyways, I would rather spend a few more bucks and get a lot more than just something to play games on.

Thats why this is so hard to say what will happen, are you the majority or minority? or am I? Or neither. The 500$ system is why I am gona wait. Now if Lucas says knights of the old republic 3 is going to be an exlusive to any system, thats the system Im getting!:D Great discussion anyway!

but KOTR has always been on PC ( and probably will be forever) so I'm going to [ut that 500$ some people will spend on a ps3 on an nvidea graphics card with a gig of RAM......

Good point thats the other reason the PS3 might have some problems with sales. A lot of hard core gamers may rather use that cash in their PC.

I am too, but a few of my best friends are computer gamers and if they are going to put a huge chunk of change into gaming it will be on their PC.

I think PC and Console have loyal fanbases and there is probably a good majority that use both. I don't forsee either going away anytime soon.

Microsoft sees that I think, thats why they are going to have games cross platform via online play. So you could play halo 3 on 360 against someone running it on a PC. ( I dont know if thats one of the games that will do that, its jsut an example. ) I see it as a small first step. The only reason the console wont go away is as long as someone can make a good system for 200$, 300$ people will buy it because they wont be able to afford 1000$ (at least) or more on a PC.

I'm a console gamer all the way. I would much rather put money into a console than I would a computer.
That's exactly how I am too. Plus I like to keep the two separate. The computer is for work and internet. My XBOX is purely for gaming....gaming the way the great gaming gods intended it to be: a console and a controller!
