TP2000, WED did copyright the name, but WED was bought by Bombardier, and got the copyright as part of the deal.

And since Bombardier is building the LAX system, they opted to use the name.

Products and company names are trademarked, not patented or copywrited.

Bombardier bought WED Transportation Systems, a subsidiary of WED Enterprises. While that included the WEDway PeopleMover, Bombardier does not use the term “PeopleMover.” They use “People Mover” but Disney’s spelling remains popular in common use.
