Why they changed the name???

I'd love to see the final price tag for the name change. Everything from signs on the highways and in the parks must have cost millions.

Honestly, is anyone else like myself surprised at how fluidly everyone around here adopted to saying DHS instead of MGM. It's like we were tired of MGM's attachment to WDI.

I still call it MGM and will probably keep calling it MGM. Been calling the park that since I was 8-years-old so it's a habit now I guess...

I agree, I've always known it as MGM Studios and will keep calling it that. Everyone knows what you mean anyway if you don't call it DHS. :animwink:

"MGM" flows better out of your mouth than "DHS." I usually just call it MGM... but yeah, the contract expired, that's the answer.

Unless I'm talking to someone on these boards, people get confused when I call it Hollywood Studios. They say, "Isn't that MGM?". It's going to take a while to get used to, but around here it does seem to have switched quickly.

My husband saw my trip planner, and was like - is this another language? What's an ADR? What's CRT for dinner? He's funny...:) I forget that not everyone speaks in Disney acronyms.

I herd a lot of people on the boats and busses I traveled on throughout the extended weekend refer to it a MGM... lol it will be quite some time before people will consistently refer to it by DHS or Disney's Hollywood Studios... it is easier to say MGM or studios...

but thats another topic all together.

Why did MGM the Studios get the ax?
That's nobody's business but the Rat's.

"Even old Epcot was once 'EPCOT Center'...
Why they changed it I can't say, people just liked it better that way..."

People still call the Magic Kingdom "Disney World", and call Epcot "EPCOT Center". I have a feeling it will be a generation or two before calling it "MGM" goes away.

As for me, I'm in the camp of just calling it the "Studios", even when it was still Disney-MGM.

I noticed this too, I think its probably because you type the same amount of letters for both. But I still call it mgm, and it will always be known that to me. How many people did anyone here know that called it the Disney MGM Studious? That was just too much to say, and so is Disney's Hollywood Studious.

I think millions may be pushing the envelope. Think of the money they no longer have to pay MGM for royalties to their name.

The probably got sick of paying for the MGM name when MGM hardly has anything to do with it. I think the one MGM title they have there is The Wizard of Oz and I don't think MGM even owns it anymore
