how about promoting Greg Emmer to Pres of WDW?
Kyle... it's been a long time since I've agreed with you, so it truly feels good to be able to at last :)

*raises glass*

So, when did you find your way to New Haven? I have quite a few Yale Alum in my family.

DisneyParks = Six Flags done better.

It's like comparing P.F. Changs to your local chinese restaurant... it may taste better, but it's still not filling.

Disney Parks need to maintain their own identity or suffer the repercussions of having a cheapened image.

Thanks Jay!

Wow. I know people get annoying...but lots of lines have been crossed in this thread.

Anyways...

I'm not a fan of some of the decisions made, but taking a look at the crowds...I'd say the parks are doing great, business-wise right now. So something has been done right. Of course Disney needs to look ahead, predict what will keep bringing people in, what to change, what to add and the vehicle through which to connect with the audience to tap into their markets. Someone said it best some posts back...the people in charge care too much about the business aspect at the expense of the creative and innovative portions of the formula.

Does Bob Iger care about the parks? The business strategies seem to be moving away from the theme parks and focusing more on expanding other ventures such as DVC and the Cruiseline. Which is smart...put everything has its downsides.

I wonder if these people are in fact considering selling the parks off to the largest bidder, so that they can charge operating fees to the buyer to run the place. Seems like a sound business decision (the parks are strong now who knows where they'll be decades down the line)...that would practically throw lots of things out the window for the sake of money....

So...

Love them or hate them...for now we're stuck with them.

Yes, park attendance is up, but tourism is up, and if people return to traveling, you can bet one of the first places they'll want to return to is Disney World.

I think Bob Iger does care about the parks, but he is also the CEO of the company and has his time spread very evenly. You need to have good people at all levels in the company, and if all that comes to Bob Iger's plate are things like Toy Story Mania, and update to El Rio del Tiempo, and refurbishments for Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and Space Mountain, he may very well be quickly signing on the dotted lines (I don't know, I'm speculating). It seems as though he is willing to approve big budget things throughout the company if it seems that they can turn a profit. You could, of course, point out that it is his job to fire Jay Rasulo of he sees a problem, though. I am not actually sure why that hasn't happened yet, other than perhaps wanting Rasulo to fall flat on his face and be completely pegged with the failure of the Year of a Million Dreams. Somewhere along the line, someone with a strong math background is going to plot attendance as a function of time at the parks, see if the YoaMD has increased the slope of that function (bet it hasn't), and then factor in how incredibly expensive the YoaMD is (lots of these prizes are NOT cheap), and realize that Disney made no returns on the campaign.

Meg Crofton knows nothing more than HR and Public Relations... not the type of hands-on person that a place like WDW needs, and Jay Rasulo is an idiot... his Disneyparks campaign is cheapening the Disney theme park name, and YoAMD is hemorraghing money left and right, since people can see right through it.

As bad as this may sound to those who know me, I think Al Weiss is presently as bad as Rasulo... something which I wouldn't have said a few years ago. All 3 are capable given the right circumstances, but not now.

The Pixar leadership presently being abosorbed by Disney may be a saving grace :) And Annie Hamburger can write a damned good show :D

I agree with you on this! Personally, I think Jay Rasulo has lost it and from some of the things he is saying out in public he is out of touch with WDW and DL.

Out of touch?
Please.
Take him to Town Square and ask him to lead you to...oh, say.....Barnstormer. Take him a good 30 min to find it without a map.

I think Disney's VP need to be forced to ride Disney transport, and enter through the front of park gates.

They always enter from the CM entrances and ride around in little vans and such. They never, ever, see that part of "Disney Experience" and thus have no idea how astray some parts of it have gotten.

You give him too much credit. It would take him a half hour to find Space Mountain. Only 25 minutes to find the Castle, though.

Jay Rasulo walks up to random guest with mouse ears: "You work here, right? Can you direct me to Discoveryland?"

Haven't the announcements made today about the new development proved that they are out of touch? Why let another company build a resort on site when they have the top talent in the world at their disposal, not to mention plans from years back by Imagineers for Disney themed top-notch resorts! Why let another company come in and take the profit and credit!

Someone from HR as president of a part of the company that is based, grounded and founded on imagination? Get real! The only imagination HR people usually have is how to change the way they fix their coffee in the break room each day!

Why partner with the Four Seasons??? Yes, we need more expensive property!! God...can someone get some new management? Will petitions help? What about a march on the castle? Or a sit-in on Spaceship Earth? SOMETHING HAS TO GET THROUGH!!!! My god, why would they let any other company build more hotel space on their property when they have uncompleted blockes of rooms planned at POP, and other plans from years past that could be implemented? Someone..(wonder who THAT could be)...at the head simply isn't paying attention, IMHO.

Rasulo that's who. His horrible "global" structure and endless promotions are doing a great disservice to the parks division. He should not be in that job. The only reason, or so I'm told, he's hanging on is that he is kissing up to Lassater and throwing cash at DL/DCA. Unless things change, both business wise and with morale within the company....He won't last the year.

When there is no more merchandise that says "Epcot" or "Magic Kingdom" just "Disney Parks"....thank Jay.

I couldn't have said it any better Rob and Lee.

WRONG! The YoMD IS a success! And people are still coming to the parks and resorts in droves. So many people are going through the gates that there's hardly any "off-seasons" anymore.

This not because of YOAMD...I would bet if you looked at the advanced bookings, most of those that have come either booked before YOAMD started or it had no influence on whether they came or not.

What would be the incentive to go because of YOAMD...to win something? Anyone going because of that is an idiot.

The globalization IS NOT ruining a thing! The parks still have their individual beauty!

But the parks and the restaurants in each park are losing that individuality.
