Why no HD tv in the deluxe resorts!?

This is ridiculous when your paying 300+ a night for a room you should have hd tv. They all have lg 32 inch lcd or plasmas, but no hd. It's ridiculous to me that they don't have hd. I know that TDO thinks if they go HD people will stay in their rooms more. B/S!

The last thing I want to do when on vacation in Disney is sit in a hotel room and watch TV. All I look for in accommodations is a minimum amount of comfort and cleanliness and proximity and ease of access to all the attractions. Pop Century fits that bill very well.

Ya but if you go in the off season the parks close early and one night we like to get in the room early and relax. Hd is needed badly there it's 2011 not 2004. It's soon going to be a laughing stock. All three Loews hotels at Universal have HD tvs with great channel selections. There are even 4 HD tvs in the freaking breakroom at Royal! It's like Disney tries to brainwash you with how many commercial loops are on. It seems like every channel you turn to is disney.

My grandparents survived the depression and a few wars. I think we can survive a week without the extra pixels.

Universal needs to offer more channels because their parks are open for about a half a day at a time, and there's nothing to do at night except drive over to Disney (and they don't want you doing that). Besides, the "Universal" hotels are 3rd party hotels in reality, so they offer the standard amenities.

Sure, a few more channels would probably be nice at WDW for those who want to watch non-family/non-news programming, but they definitely don't NEED to upgrade to HD.

As for the people saying "Who needs it?", that's not your place to say. If someone wants to spend the money at an expensive hotel, the hotel should at least give them the option of decent television. What fits one needs, doesn't anothers.

The answer as someone else already pointed out - Disney, during the day, wants you in the parks spending money. At night, they want you either at the parks, or at DTD or the hotel lounge, spending money.

I'm one of those people who agrees, Disney TV offerings in the resorts is a joke. We just bring our own DVD player and movies if we feel like a night in, or the kids want to watch something before bed.

Actually, in a public forum where someone asks us for our opinion/responses, it is our place to say.

It's not as big an issue for me, not only because, like most of you, I'm not spending that much time watching TV while at WDW. But when I do want to watch something, I have my laptop, I have DVDs, I have an Archos portable media player that can hold 100 movies in a halfway decent video image, and the ability to hook it up to the TVs in the room. So I have options, but for WDW to spend all that money on HDTVs and then not provide a hidef signal, to me, it looks shoddy. It looks cheap. It looks thoughtless.

Ha ha ha ha That's true.
With all the marketing research that companies like Disney does they certainly would be responsive to their customers concerns when they learn that the lack of HD television is causing their sales to go down. Obviously the lack of free internet isn't hurting sales either.

I am sure the cable will be upgraded when its time to replace and not anytime sooner.

Disney keeps guests wanting to be out and about spending money.

I think the worst thing is no wireless in the rooms. Many people need to cominucate that way even on vacation. Yet again, Disney does not want guests sitting around the their rooms.

It's a sad thing but everything Disney does is to get a little more money out of their guests and as long as it works they will continue.

HD would definitley be sweet but you can't even get a free cup of coffee in the lobby of Disney Resorts so no suprise that there is no HD.

Your wording confuses me, but I THINK you're saying that their sales are obviously NOT hurting because of their lack of HD and wifi...and I would agree. If anyone is specifically NOT staying at a Disney resort because of one or both of these features alone, they're in a microscopic demographic, and not one that Disney will use to justify the infrastructure expense involved with adding wifi antennas and HD receivers/converters all over the place.

I am sure the cable will be upgraded when its time to replace and not anytime sooner.

They have internet access in every room on property. Yes, it costs. And yes, you have to actually PLUG your computer into the wall, but they're not denying anyone the ability to get online during their vacation. Wifi, just like HD, is a "convenience" that I personally don't want them spending money on. They'll just increase room rates even more, and I'd much rather they invest in the parks....personally.

Recent trip we didn't have time to turn on TV until 2nd or 3rd day. Even then it was for Weather and to see what the promo channel was touting. I would vote against HD TV and signal. If they wanted to add a few channels for free, I would vote for free wireless first.

Really theres nothing to do at night? Apparently you have never been to citywalk. Also loews hotels are incredible hotels when it comes to amenities. By no means do they offer standard amenities.

I meant to say, "They offer the default amenities whereas Disney does not." But yes, they also offer more. Disney offers "Disney" amenities, but not all of the default amenities standard among chains (like wifi, HD, etc).

The only time we turn on the TV is when we get in from the parks at night and when we get up in the mornings to look at the Weather Channel, to see what lies in store for the coming day.

This thread reminded me of my vacation in France/Belgium last year.

I stayed at two Novotel's....

The one in France needed a refurbishment desperately (rooms were still in the 1990's style) but had a 32"LCD HD TV, albeit with limited channels (only Arte HD and one other)

The Belgian hotel was newly refurbished with the new modern Novotel style. The TV however was still big clunky CRT.

Don't make sense does it?

If you get room with a digital flat screen TV you can see the usual line up in digital form (but not HD) and the picture is slightly better. My Disney favorites.
74-1 Radio Disney
74-5 Must Do - Stacy
75-1 WDW Info Today
75-2 DVC
75-3 Your Next Vacation
75-4 Disney Company Clips
79-2 Convention Channel
80-1 Cheerleader Channel
83-2 Must Do Disney Subtitles
83-3 Must Do Disney Spanish
83-4 DVC Spanish
(The cartoons are only on analog 96, dang it!)

Last time I visited (Dec '09) we stayed in AKL in a 1-bed DVC room and it had HDTV, sure the selection was limited but it was there at least.

And for those people saying that there should be WiFi everywhere, they obviously do not understand the costings behind it, it isn't like they can just plug in a $100 Linksys from Walmart and be done, you are talking about $10k depending on the size of the area you are wanting to cover (I work as a network engineer for my day job).

Meh, I really don't care about wifi. There's a perfectly good 3G/HSPA signal in the room and that works just as well :) Not like I'm downloading massive files while here, so my 4Mbps 3G works fine.

I am sure the cable will be upgraded when its time to replace and not anytime sooner.
