Why no employee beards?

That's the difference. After hours and certain roles that do not require CMs to interact with guests are allowed to have them.

Wrong. All CM's are required to follow the Disney Look whether you are in an onstage or offstage role. The only exclusions are Imagineers. It's just that some managers are afraid to confront certain CM's about their facial hair. Also, for some odd reason, you can get a note from your doctor to keep facial hair for "medical reasons." Still trying to figure that one out. :veryconfu

I'll explain:

Some people can't shave without shredding their face. I fit this category, the area along my jawline bleeds every time I've tried to shave with either electric or blade.

Sensitive skin can break out from foams or creams.

Soft skin can react to the blade.

There are also swarthy types whose beards grow so fast they have a thick stuble halfway through a work shift.

Interesting. I've never heard of anything like that.

I always assumed your posts about not being able to shave for medical reasons were related to being unable to grip the blade with enough precision to avoid cutting yourself.

(I always wondered why you couldn't just use an electric.) :lookaroun

That's what I do..and I seem to have the same problem as Monty. My skin gets mangled. The electric is a little less effective, is leaves some stubble, but it's good enough.

I had a beard for many years in the military "for medical reasons" before losing my grip.

An electric razor cuts me too. :(

It has to do with the texture of the surface of my skin over the jawline. Beard hairs push the skin up around the hair and the small mound of skin actually fits between the holes of an electric razor foil. As a result, I can cut myself shaving those areas even with the best quality equipment.

If you can shave without bleeding using anything, yours is not the same problem...

It's that bad for you? Yow.

It bleeds occasionally, especially on my neck, but if I am careful, it's just red.

there a name for this?

Not that I'm aware of. I've had the problem since puberty.

Actually, I might have had it before that, but it wouldn't have been an issue!

I had a couple of military doctors insist I come and shave in front of them because they didn't believe me... Ruined some perfectly good uniform shirts because of them! Only decent shave I ever had in my life was by an old Italian barber who insisted he could do it without me bleeding. It was a glorious experience with steaming hot towels and a rub-down with astringents, but it took him about two hours and a lot of very careful skin-stretching... Not exactly something I could work into my morning routine.

Owch. I thought mine was bad!

The shave does sound nice, though.

I'm wondering if it was because of a certain person Walt disliked or had bad dealings with. Seems an odd mandate. I don't know of any other companies with such a policy these days.

Almost every facet of law enforcement does not allow beards. Exceptions often include investigators, drug enforcement, undercover in general, and animal control. I don't know of a single law enforcement agency who allows a patrol officer to have a beard.

I also fit this category - I finally gave up and decided to maintain a short beard. I end up with incredibly dry skin and look like I have rosacea if I shave constantly... my poor face just can't handle it!

Publix does not allow you to wear beards, never has never will. I find it ironic that George Jenkins (founder of Publix) and Walt Diseny were friends and how they both thought like that! They were way ahead of their time...They are 2 of the smartest men....

There's a picture of them in my local Publix...One of the newer "models" with all of these futuristic looking displays and really modern features. What do we call it? EPGOT.

Experimental Prototype Grocery of Tomorrow. :D

I believe I read someplace that Walt's dislike of beards was so intense that even men with beards weren't allowed into DL until sometime in the mid-60's, when they became more prominent and socially acceptable....
