Why is Disney sooooooo slow to build?

lol funny. Diagon Alley has 2 ground-breaking e-tickets, a fine dining restaurant, and multiple shops. New Fantasyland has a d-ticket, a c-ticket, a fine dining restaurant, and two shops.

I like New Fantasyland but it is NOWHERE close to what Universal is doing with Harry Potter

By size and scope I think the details, special effects and AA for Belle, LM and 7DMT will about the same as the details, special effects and AAs going into the Hogwarts Express and Griggott's. Different thrill levels perhaps but thrill isn't everything.

The villages and shops in NFL in detail are similar to what they have in Hogsmeade ... I assuming Diagon Alley will be similar in detail.

The both will have fancy restaurants - can't judge the food quality but I doubt they can make the Leaky Cauldron look as impressive as BOG.

In general to me they are equal expansions. They may not appeal to the same demographics (I'm much more excited by Diagon Alley personally) but to me they should take about the same time to build.

The lobby/queue for Gringott's will be MORE impressive than BOG. Think hand inlaid Italian marble flooring and a MASSIVE crystal chandelier along with many state of the art goblin AAs.

Gringotts-Wizarding-Bank.jpg

And the Gringott's Vault coaster is going to be a special effects tour de force.

And Platform 9 3/4 is also going to be pretty darned amazing:

King's_cross_station.jpg

To put things in perspective.

WWOHP 1.0= $265 million
NFL= $425 million
WWOHP 2.0= $500+ million

WWOHP: Diagon Alley should be quite impressive. The major components being Gringott's Vault which will be a special effects tour de force. Hogwarts Express with glasses-less 3D screens instead of windows. They are using 2-176 passenger Doppelmayr trains. This thing is going to be a capacity monster. There will be a Borgin and Burke's special effects walk thru attraction. And Weasley Wizard Wheezes with tons of effects including in-store fireworks. The Leaky Cauldron and Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor with potter specific flavors like Strawberry and Peanut Butter.

Oh, and the whole thing will be done, beginning to end in 2.5 years.

It's not even taking the same time.

New Fantasyland started in 2010 and is being completed in 2014. Diagon Alley started in 2012 and they're finishing in 2014.

That's pretty cool. Where did you get all this though? Source?

Uni does things much better than Disney. And they do them faster and cheaper, too.

It may not always have been the case, but that's how it is now.

Uni is the leader in all new things. Have been for a while, but a lot of people didn't notice because they didn't actually GO there.

Also Hogsmeade [and probably Diagon Alley] has A LOT more shops than NFL. New Fantasyland has Bonjour Village Gifts and I'll guess one other shop in Prince Eric's town. WWoHP has 4: Dervish and Banges, Flich's Emporium, Honeydukes, Zonko's Joke Shop, and the Owl Post.

I'll assume there will be 4 shops and one small restaurant/pub like in Hogsmead

Let's look at it like this:
Seven Dwarves Mine Train < Gringotts Bank
Voyage of the Little Mermaid < Hogwarts Express
Enchanted Tales with Belle < Weasley's Wizard Wheezes
< Ollivander's (Relocated into Diagon Alley)
Be Our Guest > Leaky Cauldron
Bonjour Village Gift < 4 Stores [ASSUMPTION]
Mermaid Store
Gaston's Tavern > Ice Cream Parlor [Can't Remember Name]

Out of 7 things, New Fantasyland has 2 that are superior to Diagon Alley.

Maybe themed to a specific franchise, I have to give DAK the winner for best overall theming though.
I'd say Islands of Adventure and Magic Kingdom are also right up there with Animal Kingdom. Though every park has it's weakness... (Looking at you Chester & Hester's, half of Toon Lagoon and "old" Fantasyland)

Years ago I thought that Uni was at least on the same level, if not a little better with their attractions. More recently they have stepped up even more. Everything I saw when I went in January was jaw dropping, the staff, which used to be criticized for not caring, have changed completely and, IMHO are better than Disney for friendliness and helpfulness. I sure do hope that Disney is paying attention. It's not the same ballgame that it was even 5 years ago. Disney can be beaten, I'm not sure why they ever thought that they couldn't be. They will be beaten if they don't wake up and realize that since they let all their experienced Cast Members go to save a few pennies they have all moved on to Uni and that old "magic" is now showing up there instead of Disney.

I have to say, I'm looking forward to visiting IOA again once the kids are bigger. Haven't been since 2006 I think and was thoroughly unimpressed at that time with no desire to return. The attractions were fine but the ambiance just didn't do it for me .. Was just walking from attraction to attraction. I don't think US has ever lacked for attractions, it was the ancillary things that were the problem. If they've improved that then they'll really be in direct competition for Disney dollars.

They've definitely stepped up their game...more character meet and greets, small shows added to Suess and the few they do in Hogsmeade...way better team members...they're definitely going in the right direction. If they keep this up, by the end of the decade I think it'll be hard to choose who is truly better.

Regarding cast/team members I generally find Disney's to be alot nicer. A few months ago when I was trading Vinylmation at AK the CM was nice enough to let me look behind the trading box since I kept on getting crappy figures. I'm not saying Disney doesn't have rude CMs, because they do. Back in March some at the Test Track boarding station wouldn't let me get into the front row. I even said, "Let the people behind me go first then, I don't care!" He made a fit and yelled at me. It's on his record now.
