Why in the World Was "Superstar Television" in MGM Shutdown?

Anyone know why "Superstar Television" was shut down? Every time I went, the place was packed, and it was quite a big theater. Every show was different because the guests MADE it different. It was enjoyable. If they even wanted, they could change the TV shows every now and then. But to scrap the attaction?

I can't believe nothing is in its place still. Whats the deal? Did it have anything to do with contracts or licenses to certain TV shows or something?

It was actually replaced with a musical based on the Disney Saturday Morning Cartoon "Doug". It was pretty good, but was closed a few years back due to some sort of legal rights or something. Now it's just been used for special events like last year's ABC promotion and Star Wars Weekend.

Superstar Limo woulda done fine at Disney World...it's just a bit strange, and not something Californians really wanted to see as a depiction of their culture. I thought it wasn't a bad ride...cheap, like all rides of its kind (think Snow White). They really need to put something in its place, though...the whole backlot of Hollywood Pictures Backlot is pretty dead now...maybe that'll change once The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opens...

They have not done a good job on it, it is a cheap attraction and does not even have a nice way of making it work together...

I heard it was suppost to be better...

I guess I understand the legal issues with the older shows...but why not a least change it and make it current or old ABC shows. Maybe My Wife and Kids or Alias or 8 Simple Rules or the Practice, etc...?

I mean, people love TV and some idolize certain shows and characters. Getting to act in your favorite show would be a lot of people dreams and just pure fun. I just don't see how this kind of attraction COULDN'T be popular.

Well I've only seen the Limo ride in videos, but I like the soundtrack alot, in fact I like a few tracks from DCA.

I would like to know why can't create a newer version of Superstar Television.

I mean it always brought in alot of people. I have to admit it was once of my all time favorite DS attractions. I think something needs to be done the theatre has been vacant for too long. I also would like to know why Doug Live close. I mean they never even told their cast members whom were in the show why which is rude. My Best friend was one of the main Doug's and he never was told they just said the show was closing for reasons we can't say right now.

Besides the point I wish monster sound show was back but that's just another day, another thread, another post.

I agree. With ABC riding high on ratings wave, they should quickly utilize their popular assets. I think ABC Superstar Television with scenes from Desperate Housewives, Lost, Alias, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, All My Children and a mix of classic shows would pack the house. I remember Superstar Television was so great because everyone loved it. I can still hear the laughter in my head.

Those are the voices in your head, not memories of laughter. :D

This was one of the only attractions that I can remember clear as a bell. (I was 12 the last time we went to WDW.) It was soooo fun! Last year when I started planning my WDW vacation I was shocked to find out that it was gone from MGM.
