Why does everybody seem to not like the backlot tour?

Most people don't like the Backlot Tour because it truly is a joke. They play it up as if it's still what it was in the 90's, which it's not, with the "You never know who or what you'll see on the backlot!" shtick. I hate when they do that, because we're not going to see any "whos" like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on a break from taping the new MMC. The only "whats" we're going to see is a practice parking lot for LMAX, costuming, a construction workshop, rotting vehicles from wicked old movies, the same Catastrophe Canyon sequence we've seen for 23 years now, a glimpse at the LMAX stage, and more old vehicles. And this is all happening to the tune of an automated spiel. It's really sad.
Hit the nail squarely on the head. Could not have said it better myself.

There is just nothing to it. Sadly. IMHO.:(
There is nothing too it after you have seen it, that's for sure!! The two biggest issues are it is LESS of the same thing it has always been, and the lost opportunity for doing something else with that prime real estate!!! We've seen it many times and it's biggest plus is being take a a load off for a few minutes.....

The BLT used to be great back in the day before they gutted it for Lights Motors Action. I never even go near it anymore unless we have time to kill or something. The street with the houses from the different tv shows was always my favorite part of the tour! They had many more elements that were cut also, so it really made it boring. I miss those days!!!!!!!

Touring old props isn't much of a special. Touring working shows (including the then live and popular Mickey Mouse Club when taping). Amazing.

Either Disney should do it justice, or it's time to retire the attraction, in my opinion.

Last time I was on it was Christmas Day 2006 - and the tram car broke down and we sat there for half hour before someone fixed it.

BLT is an outdated legacy attraction which needed updating years ago. I will admit it was better before that stunt show cropped some of it away. That whole section wants a total rehab with something more relevent and up to date.

Still like it, don't love it; room for improvement, but I'll keep going. I like the prop room, the drive through of the set designing and the ride in general.

Wow I had no idea all of that stuff used to be there! That makes the current version sound kind of lame...
Right! haha. I went on it when they Residential area was there, and i always loved it. That I remember. I mean I can see where people think it's boring, but I personally love it. But thanks everyone for all the feedback.

I hate it, wife loves it. But I remember when it was the full tour, and my wife just went on it for the first time 5 years ago. I think that's one of the biggest factors...knowing what it used to be makes me dislike the current version so much more. I hope it...along with LMA, are ripped out and replaced with something new...whether Carsland or (fingers crossed) something original.

I went on the original full length tour and, even then, wasn't all that impressed. It was a far cry better than the ghost of itself that it is now.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I can understand why people would feel passive about it, but I think the hostility stems from the same thing that Stitch has against it: it used to be much better.
People will always compare both attractions against their former selves, and they'll actively dislike it for that reason.

I don't hate it, I just find it very unsatisfying due to the fact that I did experience the original BLT. It is a shadow of it's formal self and only exists, in my opinion, to transport you to Catastrophe Canyon. In other words there really isn't a Back Lot Tour in reality. Sure they drive you by some old relics that are said to be part of a movie at some time...but to be honest, I don't remember ever seeing any of them in a movie or anyplace else. That may just be me.

I will agree that if you have no expectations about it...it's something interesting to do and it doesn't take up a lot of time, but BLT...kind of a stretch.

I saw both Alien Encounter and Stitch and actually preferred Stitch. To me AE was anything but scary and at least Stitch was humorous, especially the preshow. And you have to remember that whenever I enter it my mind flashes back to Journey to Mars that was the original occupant of that building. Things like chili breath, a few drops of water tossed your way is in no way offensive to me. I have noticed in recent trips that Stitch's Great Escape is more popular then it used to be. Go figure!

To chime in, it's nothing like it used to be. Used to be a multi hour long tour, that encompassed much much more than it does now. Portions of the tour were walking, and then portions were on the tram. Losing the ability to actually see something being taped really diminishes the point of the tour. Seeing how multiple different special effects were done, and so much more of the movie/tv show process was interesting. Now you just see backstage stuff from DHS and a few older props left out to rust.
