Looking back skyway was a great ride and even if they wanted to close it they could of used the hardware to make another ride. I was to young to remember any thing going wrong with it but was there ever any issues with the ride?

For one, it ruined "the show" as you could see behind the facades. For another it is a safety issue as people would throw/spit out of them. Third someone died by falling off of one. But primarily the first reason.
Please... it`s been asked a million times....

Maintenance costs, guest misbehaving, killed CMs, and aging ride are all reasons why the skyways were removed from disney parks.
And also the fact that Imagineering HATED it because it was almost impossible to keep up many of the illusions from up there (hidden show buildings, etc.) that work perfectly on the ground but not so much from that high up.
Don't forget the fast parts of Test Track, you can see a LOT of "behind the park" stuff i'm sure many imagineers wouldn't want you to see.agreed, though the epcot monorail does hurt the illusion also and I wish they would work on it.
