Why California is the TRUE Theme Park Capital of the World.

And I have a question for you, Hattiebox:

I noticed you gave a thumbs up to my #67 post( thank you for that!!!) and then look to do a 180° turn around and question it with your #95.
I'm not sure what to make of that since it appears highly incongruent.

At least in California, the monorail's doors close while in motion.
Yeah, they got that covered!

Can you give me a list of Florida's theme/amusement parks, other than the major 9 and Fun Spot?
There are 10 parks that I personally count as major parks in the area. WDW (4), Universal (2), SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, KSC, Legoland. But if we're counting smaller things like the original poster is in CA as theme parks, then we could easily add, Holyland, Gatorland, Funspot (2), Dinosaur World, Weeki Wachee Springs and probably a bunch other that I'm just not thinking of off hand.

Hmmm????
More recent? As in newer? But that does not make it better necessarily. A better castle, I say, is the one which has the more elaborate architecture, is larger, has more convincing paint schemes, is better positioned/located.

USH Hogwarts Castle has a better:

PAINT SCHEME
-The art director used specific material to give it a more weathered and aged look, thus make it look more realistic & authentic.

POSITION/LOCATION- The castle is positioned on a higher elevation/hill to make it more imposing from a distance and up close.

PROPS=A lot more props from the films were used for this castle, which makes sense considering that WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO is located down the street from Universal.

SURROUNDINGS= USH is literally on a mountain, surrounded by mountains. It's always nice to ride Flight of the Hipograff and see Hogwarts Castle & the Hollywood Hills in the background. The Castle was strategically placed from the very early design phase by Universal Creative.

“Back in the Fall of 2010 when we first began designing this version of the Wizarding World back in London, we built models of the whole terrain in & around Universal Studios Hollywood. We built both computer models and physical models just so we could then determine the best possible positioning for Hogwarts Castle,” Gilmore continued. “We actually designed views to take advantage of the way this version of the castle would sit up in the Hollywood Hills. Take — for example — when the queue for ‘Forbidden Journey’ passes through the space where Madam Sprout teaches her Herbology classes. As guests move through those greenhouses at the back of the castle, they’re going to get this lovely view of the nearby mountain tops.”

Enchanted Forest is awesome, and Oregon doesn't need theme parks to beat Florida and California for crying out loud.

My comment was more in jest. Enchanted Forest actually looks pretty cool and I would definitely take my son there.

Though if you want to have a serious discussion about this topic, I'm happy to have one.

Oregon is one of the most beautiful states in the US, I would put it in the top 5. Crater Lake? WOW. Mt. Hood? Beautiful. Rocky Coastline? Spectacular.

Does it beat Florida? EASILY

All that Florida really has going on for itself are: Beautiful beaches, awesome theme parks, a couple cool national parks/nature preserves/wildlife, Miami, no state income tax, low cost of living on the coast...

Is it better than California? NEGATIVE

First, let's get the downsides of the state out of the way. High taxes, high regulation, expensive housing on the coast, overpopulated cities, air pollution in certain parts, homeless problem, illegal immigration, bad traffic in cities.

In fact, most of these problems boil down to BIG CITY PROBLEMS that plague ALL big cities in the US & around the world. Traffic, overpopulation, high housing, taxes, air pollution, illegal immigration (to a certain extent) are hallmarks of living in the city. I don't deal with any of these issues because I live in a small town in CA, other than air pollution since I live in an agricultural region.

With that out of the way, let's get to the good stuff. California has the #1 ECONOMY in the US & the 6th LARGEST ECONOMY in the WORLD! It is a true powerhouse of industry and leads the country in the production of AGRICULTURE, CRAFT BEER, WINE, ENTERTAINMENT, MANUFACTURING, TECHNOLOGY. Basically, America loves to drink our wine, eat our food, watch our movies, use our tech, etc.

Additionally, CA is arguably the most BEAUTIFUL state in America due to its incredible BIODIVERSITY. The state has beaches, mountains, forests, islands, volcanoes, glaciers, sand dunes, hot springs, low desert, high desert, farms, alpine lakes, rivers, canyons, creeks, waterfalls, gorges, vineyards, wetlands, marshes, rainforests. It has the highest point in the continental US (Mt Whitney), and lowest point (Death Valley). It has the TALLEST, LARGEST, and OLDEST trees on earth. Highest waterfall in North America (Yosemite Falls), and largest sand dunes by area in US (Algodones Dunes).

California also does a great job of protecting these natural treasures through national parks, national forests, preserves, etc. This means that the public actually has ACCESS to enjoy nature. The people of CA have a right to EVERY INCH of coastline, unlike the east coast which has many beaches privatized.

Add to this mix AWESOME CITIES (SF, SD, LA), AWESOME THEME PARKS (Which Oregon doesn't have) & AWESOME CUISINE and it's clear that...

CALIFORNIA>OREGON

The problem with California is that it's full of Californians.

Do we need to step outside?

Do it! Fight, fight, fight! I've wanted to see this for years!

In the meantime, here's Oregon's only theme park Enchanted Forest and its version of the Matterhorn Bobsleds. I am not making this up, it's really a thing. I've been there, and I bet @Curious Constance has too.

But then, why would Oregon need a big fancy theme park when its beaches look like this...

Been there many times. It really is awesome. It's got many small, crappy, wonderful versions of Disneyland things and when I'm awake later I'll post some pics we've taken there. Some are truly horrific/amazing.
