I ate at Sanaa in July and I have to honestly say I can't wait to get back. I am familiar with Indian food and do enjoy it, but this place is beyone that. Personally, I also enjoy spicy (hot as well as full flavored) food. Our server did let us know that the heat is toned down for tourist tastes, but the chef would be more than happy to spice it up for us. Everything I ordered, I asked to have it prepared as hot as it would be traditionaly prepared. There was some heat, but it did not overwhelm.
As for what we ordered.....The bread service is a must. Our server did a great job explaining the different sauces/dips/spreads. We got the Red Chili Sambal (Hot) Corriander Chutney which I could have eaten a soup sized serving of, and the Mango Chutney. All were fantastic and the different breads were amazing.
We then had the Tomato soup with Paneer Cheese and the Mustard Seared Scallops. Again, both were excellent. For entrees, I had the Shrimp and Green Curry Sauce and the Short Ribs. This dish came on a long plate with 3 bowls. I had read somewhere to dump the rice in the middle of the long plate and dump the meats and sauce on each side of the rice. I am glad I took this suggestion as it made it much easier to eat. The flavors in the green curry were explosive and as I had mentioned earlier, the chef gave it enough heat to know it was there but not overpower. The short ribs were so good and tender I barely had to chew. We also had the Tandoori Lamb which was also amazing.
Unfortunately, we did not get dessert. Just to stuffed to eat anything else. Our server did inform us how good the desserts were and if we would like, we could come back until midnight and order dessert at the bar.
Sanaa is a great looking place as well. The room is full of African art and one side of the resturaunt has floor to ceiling windows so you can look out onto the savanna.
If you hadn't noticed, I highly recommend it.
