Taking an impromptu trip next month and we've decided we'd like to try Sanaa.

Does anyone have advice?

We're not really familiar with Indian cooking, so looking at the menu I can't even imagine what the dishes look or taste like. That being said, can anyone offer some of their favorite dishes and why they liked it?

Also, any other tips for this specific restaurant or Kidani Village?

My family and I loved it, and some of us are picky eaters.

Definitely get the bread service. It was a highlight of the dinner! Sooooo good.

I recommend the bread service as well. In fact, I think I could have made a meal of appetizers. The food was very good! And the atmosphere was simply outstanding!

It is not traditional Indian food anyway, so don't worry if you have never eaten Indian food,
If your family has not ever tried Indian and/or African food, you should start with something simple.
The bread service for sure. Do not skip this.
Tandoori chicken is a nice simple dish that non-adventurous eaters will enjoy.
Mango Lassi is a drink used to balance out the spiciness of Indian dishes.

Which meal are you going for?

I ate at Sanaa in July and I have to honestly say I can't wait to get back. I am familiar with Indian food and do enjoy it, but this place is beyone that. Personally, I also enjoy spicy (hot as well as full flavored) food. Our server did let us know that the heat is toned down for tourist tastes, but the chef would be more than happy to spice it up for us. Everything I ordered, I asked to have it prepared as hot as it would be traditionaly prepared. There was some heat, but it did not overwhelm.

As for what we ordered.....The bread service is a must. Our server did a great job explaining the different sauces/dips/spreads. We got the Red Chili Sambal (Hot) Corriander Chutney which I could have eaten a soup sized serving of, and the Mango Chutney. All were fantastic and the different breads were amazing.

We then had the Tomato soup with Paneer Cheese and the Mustard Seared Scallops. Again, both were excellent. For entrees, I had the Shrimp and Green Curry Sauce and the Short Ribs. This dish came on a long plate with 3 bowls. I had read somewhere to dump the rice in the middle of the long plate and dump the meats and sauce on each side of the rice. I am glad I took this suggestion as it made it much easier to eat. The flavors in the green curry were explosive and as I had mentioned earlier, the chef gave it enough heat to know it was there but not overpower. The short ribs were so good and tender I barely had to chew. We also had the Tandoori Lamb which was also amazing.

Unfortunately, we did not get dessert. Just to stuffed to eat anything else. Our server did inform us how good the desserts were and if we would like, we could come back until midnight and order dessert at the bar.

Sanaa is a great looking place as well. The room is full of African art and one side of the resturaunt has floor to ceiling windows so you can look out onto the savanna.

If you hadn't noticed, I highly recommend it.

I have eaten there twice and enjoyed it very much. I agree with the others that you should get the bread service. It is a good way to try something that will offer a number of flavors. If you aren't quite into spices, then you should consider the Tandoor items...they aren't very spicy and aren't over the top. I was a big fan of the Curry Chicken the last time I was there. I looked at the menu recently and saw that they added a coconut curry lamb, which I would like to try next time I go there.

We have a 6:55pm dinner ADR with absolutely no place to be for the rest of the night, so we plan on taking quite a bit of time to savor, maybe chat it up with the staff, etc.

As for our party's culinary tastes. We span the gamut really. From "not very adventurous" to "bring on the new".

Definitely going to have to go for the bread service!

My DS(9) and I ate there last October and we LOVED it! The food was great - I agree with everyone that you should definitely get the bread service! Yummo! And you just can't beat watching a giraffe roam outside your window while you eat!! I'm sure you and your family will have a great time at Sanaa!!

Loved our appetizers the most. I think I'd get all apps and then dessert, and skip the entrees next time. Samosas were insanely good.

Service was excellent, and a nice setting. The staff did a fantastic job keeping our 10 year old entertained and happy with his food choices.

Meega, nala kwishta!
We've been there twice now. It's deffinatly a very good place to eat. As others have said, the bread service it not to be missed. And to be honest, it was the main reason I was looking forward to eating there the second time.

It's even better than Jiko's bread service.

We had a large group, so we had two bread orders and they just gave us all of the flavors and breads instead of having to pick them.

On this last visit I had the slow cooked beef and shrimp choices. Wonderful. And everyone loved all their meals too. All plates were licked clean.

:slurp:
