Who knows what Tink gets paid to fly?

By the way, what does the spinning lady at Festival of the Lion King....... get paid? Dangerous? Yes. Well-paid? I doubt it. Able to do the Tink job? Probably.
She's the highest paid performer in the show!

And I'm 3 pounds too heavy for that job (cutoff is 120).

If you're a doctor or a lawyer and "only" making $100K/year...you're not very good.

:lookaroun

Actually, most lawyers in the midwest average less than $100,000 per year, and most doctors have to be well established in their careers (at least into their mid 30's) to actually enjoy a six figure salary due to the tremendous student loan burden. Thankfully, my salary is higher than the average in my state, otherwise I couldn't afford my annual Disney trips. Uncle Walt makes me work harder.

However, most Accountants and Engineers do not make $100,000 per year, from what I understand, but I'm not the Dept of Labor.

Anyway, stay in school. You won't lose your job because of weight gain, vertigo, change in show, or or sudden allergy to cables and pixie dust.

Correct me if I am wrong Cm's but on the backstage magic tour.... we were told that the main Tink is paid even if the flight is canceled due to high winds or if inclimate weather scraps the whole 'Wishes' show.

So you get 40 hours pay plus hazzard for doing 2 hours of prep and work for a certain number of times a week. Not bad..

they have a net under the area she flys over, right? so if she fall, she's not going to clear ground - they do have a net, in addition to the mattress (i just read) she lands on at the other end of the zip cord?

Everytime I see her fly out of cindys castle, I see no net. I know they're a matress waiting for her but I see no net.

I was told by a friend as well that tink has actually fallen off and broke her leg or something like that. I have no idea if this is true or not.

I think it is a lot safer then some of you are making it out to be. I would assume you are wearing a whole harness to strap you on to the zip line which is probably double clamped on there. The line is probably strong enough to hold a much larger person but for the look and for safty they say only upto 110lbs. I highly doubt anyone has fallen off the line. Not to mention there is no net and the fall is probably between 30 and 150 ft up depending at what point. So I am sure they are going to take ever precaution possible. As for the mattress.... I also find it hard to believe that after you have built up momentum that they are just going to have some little girl in a light up blinking suit just face plant into a matress to stop. I would hope it is a lot more sophisticated then something you can by at the store.

Nope.. no net comes out during her trip down from the castle tower. There is just extra padding down at the bottom along with a couple of CM receivers to cushion her landing.

You are right about the full harness and safety checks on the equipment every day. The harness is under Tink's costume and the lights are battery powered. Actually I think the electric costume she wears adds 15 to 30 lbs to the total package.
You are also right that they have to keep the illusion of a smaller person on the line to make it look like its really tink. But Disney also has to balance the weight just right. They can't have someone too light ride the line or else they won't have enough momentum to get all the way down. Too much weight and they will zip down faster and could risk getting injured upon landing.

Ever watched the fireworks? She flies right over the park, guests and all. No net.

That would be pretty unsightly.

WOW that would be a fun job! dosnt she land on top of the old time keeper building? or where the high way in the sky thingy used to be? come to think of it why did they take that down?

The landing point is out past the CM manager parking lot behind the right side of Main Street. Unless you are looking out the window of the castle... you won't be able to see the landing point from anywhere in the park... maybe Splash mountain at the top... but who has time to pick that one out.

Anyways... yes there is 175 feet to the ground from the time she flies out the window... but the landing platform is about 25 feet off the ground... so that makes it only 150 vertical feet of traveling she will do over a 1/5 mile of cable. If you work out the math and stuff... she really won't be going too fast down the wire. The total angle of her decent works out to only be a couple of degrees off of the horizontal plane.

The CM who does the tours said that Tink has to get a really good shove from her handler out the window of the castle. If it is too weak.. she risks coming up short of the landing area. Then she will have to manually pull herself down the remainder of the line until she is at the receiving point. It has happened in the past.

It has also happened that she didn't get enough push and stalled out while over the ice cream shop at the top of Main Street. If that ever happens... Tink has to turn out her lights... and manually (hand over hand) pull herself down the rest of the line.

Is it possible to try out specifically to become friends with Tinkerbell or do you have to go through the entire character tryout process? I would assume an opening to become Tink does not come about too often since it is a pretty good gig.

Quite the contrary. It's less sophisticated than a mattress. Nothing more that a cloth gym mat. And that IS how she is stopped.

It's actually on top of the Timekeeper building. And is way more than 25ft off the ground. More like 40ft.

On a tour I took in 87 they showed us the landing area for tink. It had nothing more than a couple matresses wraped around a pole. There is no net and im sure the wieght thing is just for character appearance not really a safety issue. You can see that cable easily from the ground. It has to be of a good size and wire rope has a high breaking strength in the thousands of pounds for rope as little as 1/2 or 5/8. The rope used at wdw appears much much larger than that. But you must take in account, Person wieght with all costume and rigging, weight of rope itself, and wear of rope over time not to mention double redundency or tripple. Think of this, there has to be someone who goes out every so often and goes down the length of that wire and inspects it inch by inch. I bet he makes a pretty penny for that.

frankly if that offer was made to your girlfriend by Disney then that is a confidential conversation and agreement. This is not the place to be discussing private matters of this nature. By doing so you might have cost her and jepordise any chance for her to get the job she is offered. They do watch these boards and are very very protective of their characters integrity. anything to do with who is friends with what character, how much they get payed or anything that deals with numbers is not to be posted in a public forum such as this. I learned that the hard way.

Not to mention her pic is in that avatar...:hammer: Also I find it hard to believe that she would be "randomly" asked to do the job....
