Is Whispering Canyon where the waiters and waitresses joke around with the guest when the guest ask for things like straws?

thanks

They do but they don't. We ate there 2 times (breakfast and dinner) a few weeks ago. Our servers did joke some but not like I thought. I asked the one and she said that they have toned it down a little. She did mess with my son. He wouldn't put his feet under the table and she would tell him too. She even went so far as to take his chair.

This restaurant is alot of fun especially for the kids. My kids loved the "horse races" where the kids raced around the restaurant on the horse head on a stick thing.

On our last trip in Jan 2008 we celebrated my nephews 8th birthday and our waitress was great. We pre-ordered a special cake for him and when it was time to sing Happy Birthday our waitress (and a few others) got ALL of the little girls in the restaurant to come to our table and sing Happy Birthday to my nephew. It was so cute, he was beet red but had the biggest smile plastered on his face! There was at least 2 dozen little girls singing to him.

People have been indicating that if you go in and specifically ask for them to do their gimmicks, they don't. So going in and asking for "that thing where everyone brings me their ketchup bottles" won't get you a response, but just asking for ketchup for your fries may.

As with any other restaurant experience, your time there will vary. While most of the serving staff does try to make the experience a lot of fun (similar to 50's prime time), you can't win them all. Some servers are just not entertaining and they don't get in to the routine. I suggest going to this restaurant during a peak dining time (I know...sound crazy). If you go during a busy time, you will be guaranteed to have something happening. It might not be directly in front of you (yes it almost always is, so don't be discouraged), but there will be plenty going on around you.

Yes, ask for ketchup - you will get lots! My DH and I thought the food was okay - we went for breakfast. We didn't really care for it - but I know it is very popular.

We agree with you about breakfast. We thought it was ok. Dinner was wonderful though. We loved the skillet. :slurp:

Whispering Canyon is very good in many different ways. If you're in the mood for some good hearty barbecue, this is the place. I personally had the pulled pork sandwich, and it was just awesome! Perfectly cooked and tender. :) Also, the CM's really enjoy their roles as they looked to just have a blast. It's a very fun atmosphere to be around, and it really shows the distinction of a WDW restaurant. :D

My only suggestion is don't go right at opening, even though it is still fun it's not as fun as when they have been open for a while. Like the ketchup is not all out so they put a ton out, but it's a little different.

You can't make the fun happen. If the restaurant is filled with fun loving people then the antics of the staff (and guests) will be memorable, but if it's filled with stuffy folk (and we have been there when it's happened) then no matter what the staff does you won't get "a show". Go in expecting a good meal and let the rest happen on it's own, don't try to force it.

Not the last time we were there. The food was lacklustre at best and the service was quite poor. We were seated out the back, in the lobby area near the entrance to Trout Pass Bar. Our server was hit and miss, when he did show up and when my mom asked for coffee with dessert the answer she got from the server was that she didn't want coffee because it was really bad because it was made at the start of the night. He didn't even offer to make a fresh pot.

Next time we stay at WL, WCC will not be on our reservation list for dinner.

Love this place, pretty solid bbq skillet too!--and we know our bbq in the carolinas...did not disappoint. The kids love the games and ketchup routine, if your stuffy/uptight and want piece and quite, dont go....ate their twice and the kids still talk about it. Polished off a piece of their smores pie and chocolate bourbon pecan pie--we are going in Oct 2010 as well.
