Which WDW rides are "untouchable"

Better understanding the question now, I think the show buildings for Space Ship Earth and Space Mountain will always be there, but no ride or attraction is beyond potential replacement. Disney just doesn't respect these attractions as some of us do; as someone else put it, there are no sacred cows. Of all the attractions, I think IASW and the Railroad are the two least likeliest to ever be replaced (but even those two would not shock me).

It would not make sense to take away the Railroad. It makes perfect sense for it to always circle the park regardless of how big or small the park is and regardless of which ones are replaced. Honestly, how do you replace the railroad? You can't it certainly doesn't take up much space.

The Mountains: They are classic and three of the best rides Disney has made.

IASW: Unfortunately, this is untouchable. It's a ride Walt had his hand in and is at most Disney parks.

Haunted Mansion: It's an iconic attraction. It's not going anywhere.

Pirates: In some way, shape or form, it shall remain...

Jungle Cruise: See Pirates and Haunted Mansion.

Dumbo: Kids love it. It will stay.

Spaceship Earth: It's untouchable actually because if they tried to remove the ride system (which was thought about), the whole ball would come down, so it's untouchable due to structural integrity... lol

Tower of Terror: It's an iconic attraction, and what would you replace it with anyway? Gosh...

Everest: Same as tower.

There are others that won't be replaced anytime soon, but could be, which is why I left them unmentioned.

Every attraction that people have mentioned as being untouchable has already been proven that they are not.

Each attraction has already been altered from their original state thereby invalidating any assertion that they are untouchable.

I'm opening up an old thread here..............

I thought of a couple more things. The castles. I don't think they'll be ever taken down in a million years. Yes things have happened like the ill-advised pink decoration for the 25th anniversary of WDW but in general can anyone imagine walking down main street and not seeing Cinderella's Castle or in DL Sleeping Beauty's castle?

Also I'll throw out another bone here. Never been to DL but I have a hard time seeing the Matterhorn ever being taken down

I'd like to make a list of my personal untouchables. However, I don't think anything is safe. Some are untouchable in the sense I think they are safe from removal, but everything is refurbishable.

Post 2000 :)

They added characters to Small World in DL and added Jack Sparrow to Pirates. If either of those two rides can be changed, there are no "untouchables" in WDW. Nothing will ever be as close to "untouchable" as IASW or Pirates.
I think by "untouchable" he means being removed all together. Not just being altered and updated.

the haunted mansion and its a small world are the only rides that should not be taken out of the park.
there are some rides id be a bit sad to see go, but they are in need... carousel of progress, tikki room, and jungle cruise are wwwwwaaaayyy due for removal or to be shut down and completely re-done and updated.
pirates of the caribbean id be sad to see closed down, but its already tainted with sparrow. i'd be in complete joy if they shut it completely down and re-opened it as the ride in shanghai.
everything in tomorrowland needs to be completely re-done minus monsters inc and buzz. a few tweaks to update space mountain would be epic. stitch.. just go away.
tom sawyers island can go.
country bears should be closed or completely re-done.
peter pan needs to be closed or completely re-done.
race cars need to be closed or completely re-done.

basically only its a small world and haunted mansion should be left alone.

Its interesting to see the list on page 1 and then know that some of these rides are changed/removed within 6 years.

Hall of Presidents doesn't really need to stay. I understand the point of it, but it's just boring and barely has anyone there (sort of like the Country Bear Jamboree).

Funny, at the time this list was written I guess Snow White was still there, but I do agree, it should have remained. It wasn't flashy, but it was very Disney, and while the coaster isn't bad, it doesn't have the same charm.

I agree with Tow Sawyers Island being a complete waste but I would love to see the water and the small southern island stay there because I think the water presence is needed for the theming and I just love the sitting areas with rocking chairs around the water. However, they should fill in the water around the northern island and connect the walkway from BTMR to a new land or expanded frontier land all the way to the railroad tracks and have the other side of the walkway connect up in front of HM (they would have to rework the entrance though to make room). Thats my dream. Now due to it being in MK, if they decide on a new land, it would have to be old school Disney, not Marvel land. Guessing that Frozen 2 will be a HUGE success when it comes out, I could see them adding a Frozen themed land. Thats not old school Disney, but something I could see them doing to rake in the cash! Now my mind is wandering on what other cool nostalgic lands could go there that would make sense for MK

I agree, I had even forgotten about the Country Bear Jamboree. How about including the spaceship spin above the TTA?

Pirates was untouchable -- and then the [insert expletive of your choice here] touched it!!! -- leaving their Johnny-Depp shaped, dissonant fingerprints all over it. I will always love POTC, but I'll always view the movie-themed redo as having diminished it.

By untouchable, I mean to not eliminate the ride - like they did 20K.
I'm not against them tweaking rides.

I would leave Tom Sawyer...then no boat or train issues and trade for the Speedway to go bye-bye...lots of available real estate if this ride was gone.

The thing is, there are two problems with the Depp-styled Pirates. We all know what Pirates was like prior to the movies coming out. It was great and we fell in love with it. But to me, the movies are just too popular and Depp's character is too iconic to leave out. It isn't as if he dominates it, he's just around a couple of scenes. There are still all the old scenes we loved before. What could Disney really do? They had to add him somewhere because you have two schools of people, the ones that want it left alone and the ones that can't understand why Depp isn't in there and may not even know that the ride existed for 40 years before the movies came out. So they had to find a middle ground and I thought they did it rather well. At Disneyland Pirates is even better and longer.

I'm glad you aren't a CEO. Haunted Mansion and Small World are the only ones you'd keep? Tom Sawyer Island gets a lot of hate that it doesn't need. I like it over there. It is a nice break from the crowds. I love the caves. Not to mention the Liberty Belle Riverboat. If Tom Sawyer is gone so is that. The riverboat gives it this turn of the century type of look (1900 I mean). It fits with Frontierland/Liberty Square.

Your ideas are really ripping out the core of Disney and much of Walt's imagination too. Carousel of Progress is a great attraction that people should appreciate. Honestly, where else has anything similar to this outside of Disney? It's original.

I started this thread in early 2010. Man, was I wrong about Snow White. I just never thought that would be one of them gone.
