Which value resort?

Hi, everyone! I have some questions for people who have stayed at value resorts before.

A little about my planned trip:

I'm planning my 2nd solo trip to the world (looking at 10 nights Sept 2010) but this is my first time staying at a Disney resort. I've been to Disney a few times, but I've always stayed off-property in timeshares, so this is all new for me. I was planning on staying in AS music and requesting the Broadway section because I'm a musical theater nerd, plus I've heard it's quieter (which is a plus since I'm travelling without kids).

However, I've noticed that here on the boards, people seem to prefer POP far over the All Stars, so I was just curious as to why. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons to each?

I'm horrible at decision making - while one of the plusses to a solo trip is that you can do whatever/whenever I want, it leaves me making all the decisions! LOL

- Pop never shares buses with any other resort - All-Stars can sometimes share buses.

- Pop is very centrally located on Disney property, it never seems to take long to get anywhere; the All-Stars are in the far southwestern corner of property, the closest park is AK

- food court is the largest value food court

- tie-dye cheesecake!

- if you want a quiet room, just ask for a 4th floor room facing the lake

Hands down it's POP Century all the way.:sohappy: Food court is really nice, plus you don't have to share buses with the other value rsorts you have you buses that a huge perk right there.

They all basically the same except Pop has a better location (I have shared a bus 3 times in numerous stays at the ASR). Decide which theme you prefer and go with that. You really can't go wrong with any of them.

Btw, the food court is larger at Pop, but it needs to be...it has more rooms.

DisneyJoe, is that 4th floor in any building, or a certain building?

Its hard to explain for me but I've stayed at AS Music, Movies & Pop, Pop is my favorite. The food court area, theming of the hotel, other guest, & location are my some of my reasons. It's just different atmosphere at Pop vs the others.

I think that the All Stars tend to end up hosting more groups, and POP tends to be more families. (Nothing to back this up, just based off of trip reports) So POP may end up being quieter for you. Last time at All Star Sports, we ended up on the back side of one of the Basketball buildings. About as far away from the food court and buses as we could be, BUT our door opened onto a forest, so we heard absolutely nothing as far as noisy people went.
But other than a few "unique" items at the POP food courts, they are practically the same. POP almost always has its own bus, All Stars will probablly end up sharing between all 3. That said, Sports boards first, so you may have better luck getting on buses going to parks, but returning from parks it really won't matter.
If you want to request a certain theme, then that alone may very well be worth it to you, as long as you know there is a chance you may get something else.

Pop Century ALWAYS has its own busses, not almost always. The resort does not share busses (other than Magical Express, of course).

If you stay at All Stars, stay at the movies and request a room in The Mighty Ducks section. You'll be closer to the busses at the All Stars Music than even people staying at that resort! Plus you'll have two choices of busses to board on your way back. Most of the share time is during the day when ridership is low. So during peak times you probably won't be sharing a bus at any of the All Stars. In my opinion, the only REAL difference is the themeing. They are all, quality-wise, the same.

We've stayed at Music and Pop. We like Pop for 3 major reasons
#1 Bus, Pop always has it's own
#2 It just seemed less busy, it might be because more groups stay at AS resorts
#3 Location Location Location, it's central whereas AS are next to AK.
