Hi Disney Experts. I was at the World recently and want to go back in July. I know time is short so I am asking for any advice quickly. I am use
to staying in a deluxe resort (usually AKL or WL). I like being around Boma, Sanaa and Victoria Falls. However to cut my expenses I may have to scale down to a moderate. I was trying to get into the Coronado Springs resort but they are all booked for the days I need. I have to go
in July as that is when I can vacation time from work. Also Coronado does
not share bus service with anyone which is a plus. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Are you out there Master Yoda? or anyone, please
help!!!!!:)

I've stayed at all of them, but some more recent than others. In the past two years I've only stayed at Carribean Beach. I think it really just depends on what you are looking for because none of them are bad by any means.

Carribean Beach is quite big and spread out and depending on what area you are in could mean a bit longer walk to the food court, main pool etc. I was pretty far away but enjoyed the walk each morning to get coffee. I don't spend a lot of time in the resort, let alone at the food court/pool area anyway so it was less important to me. They don't share buses with anyone, but it's a large resort.

It's been YEARS since I stayed at Coronodo Springs, so I don't think it would be fair of me to rate or judge it in anyway. I'm talking like 10 years here. Right after it first opened I think. All I can really remember anyway is lots and lots of FROGS haha.

I'm staying at Port Orleans French Quarter this coming August. I can remember staying here a lot as a kid and I loved it. Its the smallest of the moderate resorts, if I remember correctly. I've been reading also that they are currently re-furbing all of their rooms. I've seen some pictures and it looks really very nice. I believe (but don't quote me) that the refurb includes upgrading all full sized beds to queens! I'm not sure about bus sharing with Port Orleans Riverside, but I'm pretty sure they share. Someone else who knows more than me (haha) can tell you who gets picked up first etc.

I'm sure other people will be able to give you more and better info, but in the end it'll just be about what you're looking for because they are all wonderful in their own way!

EDIT: Here is the link. Scroll down a bit for the pictures of the updated rooms http://www.portorleans.org/rehab.php

I happen to like Port Orleans - Riverside or French Quarter - it's a nice mod resort. Don't forget to check prices for Wilderness Lodge for your timeframe - sometimes they have a good rate, it's deluxe, but not as expensive as the others.

We really like Port Orleans, French Quarter. We've stayed there many times, dating back to when Port Orleans was Port Orleans and the Riverside was Dixie Landings. The property is small enough so that the pool, food court and bust stop is close. If you try and get Building 4, everything is really close. Buses are quick. They do share buses with Riverside but normally the Port Orleans pickup and drop off is first.

I'd recommend CSR! Besides having a great main pool area, CSR also offers many deluxe amenities at a mod price (including suites).

CSR has queen beds which is a plus! The rooms have been recently renovated and are gorgeous.

CSR has a fitness center, spa, tanning beds, a sauna, salon, full menu room service and a night club.

CSR has a sliding wooden door separating the sink area from the room instead of a privacy curtain like the other mods.

CSR has the same toiletries as the deluxes (except GF). CSR has separate shampoo and conditioner instead of the shampoo/conditioner combo at the other mods and values (a small thing, I know, but it means I don't have to pack shampoo and conditioner).

CSR has the largest hot tub of the mods and one of the longest pool slides on Disney property. The pool, slide and playground area is great.

CSR has terrific transportation that is not shared with another resort.

I completely agree with Buzz. If you concern is moving down from a deluxe to a moderate, CSR is the choice. It is the most deluxe of the moderates.

Port Orleans

We've only stayed at the Port Orleans, both Riverside and the French Quarter and we've LOVED both. FQ is a bit more of a party theme and Riverside (Magnolia Bend side) was very tranquil and beautiful.

Good luck!

I am here....just a little late to the party. If you can not get into Coronado either Riverside of French Quarter would be my choice. For the most part none of the moderates share buses but they all have multiple stops. The Port Orleans resorts get a little astrix in this area as they are technically 2 different resorts and the buses will typically stop at the one bus stop at FQ and the either 4 0r 5 stops inside of RS. Several other pros to the RS resorts are they are much more compact than either CS or CBR and they both have water access to DTD. FQ also has pretty incredible beignet in the food court.:slurp:

I've stayed at both CSR & CBR. We definitely prefer the CBR! As for the other moderates, I've heard they're nice but prefer something a little more "tropical" when I visit FL.

We've stayed at Port Orleans Riverside numerous times, and we can't say enough good things about it. The theme is extremely beautiful and completely immersive. Due to the dense woods, it's possibly the most immersive of the moderate resorts, and once you're within the circle of buildings, away from the cars and parking lots, there's nary an intrusion or a weakness in the theming. It's also the epitome of relaxation, a great break from the craziness at the parks. In my opinion, French Quarter falls a bit short on the theming by putting the highly urban French Quarter in the middle of a forest. It's still pretty, but I prefer Riverside's simplicity and restraint.

Besides the atmosphere, there's several other ways in which Riverside stands out. An issue with Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach is that they're based on large lakes, which you have to walk around to get to the various facilities. With the bridges over the Sassagoula River, you can just cut across the middle to anything you need. The pool is centrally located. The foot court looks great and has a large variety of good food, including a station where you can make your own pasta-bowl. Downtown Disney is right down the river, and a boat can shuttle you there.

I would suggest staying in Magnolia Bend in either Magnolia Terrace or Oak Manor. You're right next to the bus depot, the main pool is right in front of you, it's a short walk across the river to the main building, and right next to your building is a large quiet pool.

Was able to change travel dates

Hello All. I was able to move my travel dates to a week later in July which enabled me to book at Coronado Springs Resorts. I have heard from several people that they believe this to be one of the nicest moderates. I usually stay at WL or AKL but was just at the World recently and had to cut expenses some. I was told it is centrally located, not far from AK and
Epcot. I booked thru AAA and they suggested a "Preferred Room" so I would be closer to things. I really like Boma, Sanaa and Victoria Falls. How far is it. A taxi driver told me no more than 5-10 minutes last time I
was their. Any thoughts please join in. Also how is the Maya Grill. Lastly
has anyone done the new Wild Africa Trek yet, and what did you think? As always thanks so much for your comments. By the way thanks for being out their Master Yoda, as many of us appreciate your comments.:)

CS is literally right around the corner from AK. 5-10 min by cab is about right. Maya grill is good but I am not super thrilled with the Pepper Market (food court) at CS due to the higher prices, 10% gratuity, etc. The selections for dinner are a little better at the pepper market but there are better options in WDW.

POR is probably one of my all-time favorite resorts (especially the Alligator Bayou section). I consider it a deluxe at moderate pricing. The food court is great, rooms are really nice and so spread out that it feels more intimate and relaxing. There are also so many pools that it makes it more enjoyable. And it's always nice to take a boat ride to DTD for the night.

The only 2 Moderate's I ever went to is Port Orleans French Quarter and Carribean Beach.

I have French quarter over Carribean Beach. I first went to the Port Orleans French Quarter back in 1992 and it was known as Port Orleans at the time. The resort isn't too big, good rooms, has a good food court, and great music at night for Scat's club.

The only thing French Quarter doesn't have is a table service restaurant.

I was placed in a great location at Carribean Beach for walking distance to the food court, but it is a very spread out resort. It has good room, a nice food court, and a very good table service restaurant in Shutters.
