I picked the old version also. Probably due to it was the version used on my my first trip in '71. Also agree with the original EPCOT Center over EPCOT. Just personal preference over the two.

I'm not saying the script needs to be changed, just that I'd like to see it done.

BUT...

The Walt Script has become so common that the resort no longer has an identity of its own. I love the original logo for its nostalgic factor, but it's far too outdated to be used again. At least the old one gave the resort its own branded identity. "Walt Disney World" and four Macy's stars (pixie dust?) do not represent the resort as a vacation destination.

Simply reintroducing the mouse globe to stand alongside the current logotype would communicate that this is a vacation world*, not just another competitor on I-4. Plus, this wouldn't interfere with the company's marketing strength at all—people recognize that Disney script, and it would remain.

*Yes, I know that the wonderfully bland "World" is on the logo already, but the text still doesn't differentiate the "Walt Disney" part from anything else with their name on it. The point is to make the Walt Disney World logo instantly recognizable on its own terms, not just to slap the word "World" behind the company script typeface.

I can't disagree with any of that as far as talking points go. The "World" aspect of the logo is undoubtedly bland, and could be changed without affecting brand strength. To what, I don't know, but it could be changed.

That said, from a practicality standpoint, my vote still just goes for incorporating aspects of the old logo on property as little "easter eggs" (although I think the current instances of the old logo are more about laziness, rather than alluding to the World's roots). Who wouldn't love to see this flag flying by the Train Station? I think it would cost too much money to change that aspect of the logo--they should have just made the logo less bland when they initially designed it.

This is the version I'm talking about. I didn't make it up; it's used on some WDW paperwork. I like it better than the pixie dust version because it still makes the visual connection to "World." :)

This would have to be cleaned up a bit to be used in the mainstream, but it's still infinitely more "Disney" than the generic stars and swirls.

Now that is cool.

I'm liking the mockups guys. Maybe there should be a competition to design what the fans think the logo should look like...
Although I guess everyone will end up with similar deviations to that we've seen.
Anyway... any more ideas :D

I would not describe it that way but yeah. On a related note. I think if the globe came back people will confuse it with Spaceship Earth so I like the current one.

They didn't confuse it for over 16 years. :animwink:

I don't think walt actually signed his name like that.. I recently saw a video on some animation website when Walt appeared on some game show or something (don't know what it was) and had to sign his name on a board, and he didn;t sign it like on all the logos. Although it isn't too dissimilar, so you can see where this script was developed from.

Anyone know what the show is\the website is\where the clip is?

EDIT: Just to answer my question and that of previous poster, i've found the clip: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Of7_K1e_x3Y&eurl=http://www.cartoonbrew.com/?s=walt+what's+my+line

How about that as a new logo font?

That's true; an artist developed the signature based on Walt's own.

I voted for neither, because I like both equally.

I like this version too. I think I'd like to see a logo similar to this, but with the text superimposed over the Mickey globe, with "Walt Disney" above "World".
