Which is closer to Epcot resort area: MK or AK?

I say it is MK, especially since you can just jump on the monorail at Epcot and go over there. So even if it is geographically farther, it's still "closer" in regards to the speed with which you can get there from the Epcot resort area. But I tend to think that it is geographically closer as well.

The reason I am curious is because on of the assistant managers at work is planning on going in May, and she's been reading up on WDW (passporters and Birnbaums specifically), as well as asking me questions. She swears up and down that according to the map in the back of the unofficial guide, Animal Kingdom is close to Epcot area and MK is way out in the boonies. She's staying in the Swan or Dolphin and to quote what she said yesterday: "Epcot is right here, MGM is right there, Animal Kingdom is over there and way, way down there is DisneyLand". :ROFLOL:

I may not have got the exact quote correct, but I am quoting word for word on the DisneyLand part.

So just to settle any curiosity, am I correct that MK is closer in all respects, or is Animal Kingdom techincally a closer distance to the Epcot area?

Would also have to agree that AK is closer...

From the front entrance of AK directly to the middle of the Swan & Dolphin was 2.01 miles. From the front entrance of MK directly to the same spot was 3.75 miles. I got these numbers using the path tool in Google Earth.

The MK resort area is a little "out there" compared to how close the other 3 parks, water parks, and DTD are.

Furthermore, it is not so easy to get on the monorail from the Epcot RESORT AREA.

Having said that, the UG says that using Disney transport to get from the Dolphin to MK is 26-36 min, and to AK is 34-46 min.

From the Swan to MK it's 38-50 min, and to AK is 35-46 min.

I don't understand the discrepancy between the Dolphin and Swan; maybe they share a bus and it stops at Swan first. I also don't understand why it takes longer to get to the AK by bus.

However, by car, to the MK it's 35-45 min, and to AK it's 16-17 min for both resorts. That includes getting from the car to the park entrance.

Very true. I didn't think about that. I was just thinking of the ease of getting on the monorail at Epcot and going over to MK. But if you're leaving the Swan in the morning for a day at MK, it would surely be quicker to just drive (or take the bus) to Animal Kingdom as opposed to trying walk to and through Epcot just to catch the monorail (assumming she had a parkhopper pass and assumming that she could even get through the International gateway at that hour of the morning to begin with).

So I'll have to tell her that she was right...but while I'm at it, I'll also tell her that if I ever, EVER hear her refer to MK as DisneyLand again, she's gonna have problems! :ROFLOL:

AND you need a park hopper or annual pass to get into Epcot to get to the monorail in the first place.

The sort of thing most of us forget because I'm sure NOT at least having park hopping is unTHINKable!
