Hi, this is my first "proper" thread, so please be nice!
I'm wanting to stay at one of the following, which is best and why?

Contemporary Resort
Boardwalk
Polynesian

Thanks for any suggestions.

Although I've never stayed there, I would say the Contemporary. I love the atmosphere and the monorail riding through it. The tower rooms have great views and you are very close to things. Magic Kingdom & Epcot are a short monrail ride away. It has a nice big pool and beach/marina. The restaurants are fantastic (California Grill, Concourse Steakhouse).

I just love the overal theme / atmosphere of the contemporary. I could just stand over the balcony outside my room (inside the building) and watch the monorail all day!!

Oh my God...another Brit....I thought we broke away from you guys a long time ago....lol.

Contemporary...ditto the reasons Imagineer gave you...Chef Mickeys is there too....great character buffet dinner...the Magic Kingdom area gives you the impression it is the hub of all other activity on the property.

Boardwalk is fantastic too....access to MGM and Epcot... lots of activities around the hotel...one of my favorites...

You'll walk away from either of these hotels with a very wide smile on your face.....and a little thinner wallet.

I hope my reply to you was 'proper.'

Take their advice if you like but, while you're staying at the Contemporary don't visit tht Polynesian(especially at night) because you will be sorry that you did'nt stay there.

Too bad all of the above picks are dead wrong! Go to the Boardwalk! The Boardwalk has so much more to offer! It is so neat at night! There are a lot more things to do at the Boardwalk than at the other two. Also the Boardwalk is a short boat ride to either EPCOT or MGM and a very short walk to EPCOT and a slightly longer walk to MGM. You can see Spaceship Earth in EPCOT from the Boardwalk. The whole atmosphere at the Boardwalk is the best and the rooms are awesome. Pick the Boardwalk---you won't regret it for one second! But you will regret not picking it if you choose one of the other two---for every second of your visit! Trust me---more restaurants, more activities, more atmosphere at the Boardwalk!

Mrs. 1000th_Guest says "Boarwalk, Boardwalk, BOARDWALK!" We are going in December; she is greatly disappointed that we aren't staying there. (We are DVC members and, when we tried to book, couldn't get a room there -- we'll be staying at Wilderness Villas this time).

We have never stayed in the Contemporary; the comments in earlier posts reflect what I have read in the past. It is also supposed to be a fairly short walk (<15 minutes) to MK. I prefer to walk from MGM to Boardwalk to avoid the transportation hassles; I suspect the same would be true with this walk.

Boardwalk is a great place to stay. The comments about the boat rides and walks to EPCOT and MGM are exactly right. The potential downside is the nighttime activity. Depending on your room, you could get a fair amount of noise.

Our first stay at Boardwalk we got a room looking over the big pool with the Kiester Coaster -- in fact when we looked out our window we saw the backsides of the people sliding down the slide. We got our room changed and got a very quiet room looking towards MGM studios -- we could see some of the Fantasmic! fireworks every night.

Last time (in January) we got a "standard view" room. It looked out onto the (front) parking lot. We had a very nice view of EPCOT fireworks every night.

We are hooked on certain goodies from the Boardwalk Bakery. I shudder to think how much we spent on Banana Cream tarts and Giant Rice Crispie Treats. My wife is disappointed that I WILL NOT take a trip every night to Boardwalk Bakery to get our nightly goodies. I must find some way to appease her.

We stayed at the Poly one night (we visit during winter and book an extra night in advance for "weather-releated delays" -- if we don't get delayed we get an extra day at the parks) on our last visit. We really liked the room and view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and MK. The restaurants were very crowded, even for off-season. We *loved* the breakfast buffet.

I don't think you can go wrong at any of these resorts.

I have been at the Contemporary garden rooms and tower. Prefer the tower rooms but they are more $$. If you like being on the monorail system and big rooms then the Contemporary is your best stay.

I have never stayed in the Polynesian, but have visited and eaten there. If you like the monorail systems and want a more romantic setting then this will be your best stay.

Now, the Boardwalk is my favorite of the three choices. I stayed there a few years ago and it was wonderful. It is so close to Epcot you can walk and see the fireworks. There are many choices of places to eat, shop, or see entertainment. This room is about the same size as the Poly. and is also romantic. If you like the beach you will like this resort.

Have a magical time. Wherever you choice to stay, they are all nice resorts.

:)

Boardwalk: Very convinient location and always something going on on the Boardwalk. If you want a quiet room avoid a Boardwalk view room and opt for a Garden view. When you add in the Yacht/Beach Club and Swan/Dolphin it is like staying at 5 resorts for the price of one.

Polynesian: Wonderful theming esp. at night. Also has an excellent location. You can walk to the TTC for easy access to Epcot.

Contemporary: I would only recommend staying here if you are spending the extra money for a Tower room with a view of the MK.

I think I'd be torn between the Boardwalk and Polynesian...the Boardwalk has access to so much, so many activities and easy access to Epcot and MGM...but the Polynesian is so romantic and peaceful and they've got the great luau show, not to mention the Great Ceremonial House lobby which is really great...a lot of pretty beaches too and a view of the castle which I love....:)

My favorite of the three is Boardwalk, all because of two little words: Atlantic Dance! I loved that club! I could go there more than the parks. (maybe) It is better than all of the clubs at Pleasure Island. (Well, most of them at least)

I have stayed at all three resorts and my favorite is the Polynesian-especially the concierge building. I did not like the Contemporary at all, even though they did have large rooms.

If you have young kids and plan on spending the majority of time at the Magic Kingdom, the Polynesian is perfect-because you can roll their stroller right on the monorail. My daughter also enjoyed feeding the ducks.

If it is an adult only trip or if you have teenagers being able to walk to Epcot and MGM would be a big advantage of the BWV. The drawback to us our last stay there was it was very noisy all day long and into the night, which really messed up my kids sleeping schedule. I did join the DVC there at BWV but usually spend the weekends at the Polynesian.

Actually I like all three of the resorts and would love to be at any one of them right NOW!

I would stay without a doubt at the Polynesian! It, by far, has the best and most relaxed atmosphere of any Disney Resort, IMHO. I have stayed at the Poly 8 times and have not been sorry once. It's convenient to the monarail, you can walk to the TTC, walk to the Grand Floridian along the beach, you can see Cinderella's Castle across Seven Seas Lagoon and it just feels like you're in the South Seas. I have stayed at Boardwalk once and it's also nice but sometimes it's a bit noisey and busy.

Always - The Polynesian

The Boardwalk is a nice place to visit, but way to crowded to stay there. The Contemporary is like apartment living, so if you've never actually lived in an apartment you might enjoy it as a vacation option. The Polynesian is paradise. Every day, all day, it's aloha and mahalo.

The pools are supposedly resident's only, but no one ever checked our ID while staying there. People going to the Boardwalk restaurants, etc. who arrive by car or bus have to walk through the hotel public areas. Last time we went, we were on the first floor, and I felt a definite lack of privacy. I won't stay again unless I can be guaranteed an upper floor room!

To answer your question, no, I was unaware of any true resort guest only areas.
