Which do you prefer- Drive or fly

I've driven twice--once with my entire Girl Scout troop (7 girls & 2 parents in one van, WOW), and once with my parents (coming back from my CP). From South Texas it's 2 full days, and one of those is spent just getting out of Texas! Flying is much faster and easier :)

:ROFLOL:SO true! Especially when you want to travel north...I remember driving to Colorado every year as a child. It took FOREVER to get out of Texas! And there would be NOTHING for miles and miles.

I guess I'm lucky in that I have a flexible schedule. so I don't really mind using up two days of my vacation because I can always extend it for a few more days.

I'm also driving with my best friend. If I was stuck with some angry toddlers then I wouldn't hesitate to book the flight

Thanks for all your replies. Very interesting:sohappy:

Not to rub it in (:fork:) but at this time 2 weeks from now I'll be playing in the ocean in daytona, getting ready to head to disney for the night

Fly. I live in California, so it will take 6-7 hours for us to arrive at Orlando. For DLR, we either drive (8-9 hour drive) or fly (which will be 1-1 1/2 hours.)

It really depends on where you live. If you're really far away like in Washington or Oregon, it may be cheaper and to fly because of gas prices and hotel fees. If you don't mind a couple days drive, go for the driving then.

If the drive was 10-12 hours I would do it. With our drive being ~20 hours we fly. We did drive once, but only because it was a short notice trip and being during a school vacation we couldn't get anything reasonable.

I always fly. It's about a 24 hour drive from here and my DH is one of those people who doesn't like to be in control of the vehicle, so sharing driving duties is out of the question. We'll have to see what happens after my DS turns 16 and gets his driver's license. Three drivers would make driving a realistic possibility, but if the DH has issues with my driving and I've been driving for 20+ years (I won't say how many over 20;)), I can't imagine the issues he'd have with a new driver. I also usually end up travelling to DW without him, so flying is just the only way to go. I always feel like my vacation starts when I hit the tram at the Orlando airport. Plus we can sneak up on my parents who are waiting for us at the end of the tram! Yes, I'm a mean daughter!

we do both. Time is our main factor in drive v/ flying. Although, I prefer the drive. We live in the St.Louis area (IL side) so its about 18 hours for us or 2+ hrs flying plus travel time.

I'm originally from Seattle, Washington...I have flown to Florida 5 times, and (as of July of this year) I have actually driven down as well.

Close to 50 hours of driving with no air conditioning, stuffed in a tiny Buick filled to the brim with suitcases and boxes is insane...to think that I used to actually complain about 6 hours sitting in an air-conditioned flight....:dazzle:

However, if I lived closer, I'd probably go for driving- it's cheaper and then you don't need to rely on Disney transportation. Not to mention that it makes departure times a little more lenient :)

The last two years we drove (from Ohio) and enjoyed the trip. Our next trip (March 2008) we are going to fly. We will spend a few extra $$ on the airline tickets, but it will give us some extra time in Disney.

As others have said, driving can be fun (especially since we have a portable DVD player for the kids). I do all of the driving, and my wife updates the kids by pointing out where we are on the map, and where we have to get to.

I have a feeling that once we fly and get there in 2 hours instead of 2 days, we will probably never drive again.

Circumstances very family to family. For us, it makes more sense to drive. The flight and rental car costs more than make driving a sensible choice when preparing a budget, but when you toss in a hotel stay and more meals on the road, the costs do tend to get a bit closer. For use, I have enough rewards points to make the hotel down and back free. We pack a cooler for some food items and again, driving makes sense for us economically.

Since I was a kid, my parents always made the drive part of the vacation and now, I try to do the same thing. Yes a flight will get us there faster, but it would also get us there poorer.

We drive 10 hours. It costs our family of five about $225 in gas compared to buying airline tickets for 5 which would get pretty crazy. Plus we love having the van down there so we avoid the dreadful buses.

Do to my family's hectic schedule, it's easier and more convenient to fly. We'd rather take the time at the parks, because the first day we'll take the earliest flight out of Binghamton or a surrounding airport, usually around 6AM, so we're at Disney by 11-12 and have the rest of the day to do whatever we want. We fly 2 to 3 times a year every year one of which is usually Disney, so we're used to it and accept whatever delays come our way.

I for one love flying and hope to get my flying license one day, so any chance I get to fly, i'll take it.

We drive because, we both like driving, coming from Canada we can stop at stores and restaurants we don't have here.
Lastly, I have found that driving two days allows me to be in vacation mode by the time I reach Florida and when I leave Florida I know I still have a few days of vacation left.
I flew once and nothing was worse then the feeling of leaving WDW and being home on the same day, actually within a couple of hours.
