Pre-Trip Wherever I go, she goes

A little over a year ago I 3D printed a tiny companion whom I will call lil BES.

In a little over 6 months I plan to take that wonderful child to WDW.

The TR title is a slightly altered quote from The Mandalorian. As a Star Wars fan and new parent I have accumulated a ton of baby Yoda stuff. I would say that baby Yoda is the only character that lil BES recognizes (sorry Mickey).

Although I am nowhere near as cool as Mando (or Armando as my autocorrect wants to call him) lil BES does share a lot of qualities with baby Yoda including:

Extreme cuteness

Love of snacking

Mischievousness

Lil BES is definitely going to be the wildcard for this trip so I am starting this pre-TR on the early side.

If the first year of parenting taught me one thing it’s to ask for help so I will be soliciting some advice from you all as I add this new chaos factor into my planning.

All of the (tentative) details:

When: early February 2023

Where: AoA family suite

Who: Me, the ever reluctant DH, and last but not least, lil BES:

9 days til WDW

8 days til we leave/start vacation

7 more shifts at work.

Only one more pretrip day that I am off of work to do all of the things. 😱

DH and I have started to pack a bit. Looking at the extended forecast I don’t think there’ll be much overlap in our clothes for now vs the trip. Our high today of 32*F is our high for the week 🥶

My packing attitude now:

My inevitable reality next week:

After a few more outings where I’ve had to carry lil BES long distances I decided to get this contraption:

I’m going to look ridiculous but hopefully it will be useful.

Looks like space in that kiddie carrier for a hip flask ... Just saying.

I’m interested to hear what you think about the hip carrier. L is way too big for me to carry him in the Ergo comfortably, so I’ve thought about getting one of these.
Lil BES hated our ergo omni. I think it was the whole getting in and out process. I’m hoping this one works better for us.

I’m interested too!

I’ll be sure to keep you all updated good and bad.

9 days for us too!

I have the hip carrier and it hasn't been the BEST for us because my little is NOT so little. Hope it works better for you!!

This one says it works up to 60-something pounds but we’ll see. I’m really hoping it works out because it seems like it would be useful outside of Disney too.

I don't know what these slings are called, but Aleisha called it her super power. Una stayed in this well past 1 year and she's pretty decent sized. It has a big adjustable ring in the front that somehow holds the fabric.
This is them making Christmas cookies and at an outdoor mall.

Lil BES also disliked our carrier similar to that one. 🤷🏻‍♀️It seems so great. Just not to her. The new one arrived while I was at work tonight. I guess we’ll see in the morning if third time/carrier is a charm…

So lil BES is in a bit of a language explosion and her versions of “shut” and “sit” don’t exactly sound like that to the non-discerning ear. 😬

If you hear something getting onto IASW next week that makes you turn around and you see a cute little redhead, that’s lil BES and we’re working on pronunciation. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Awww....that's so sweet! When A was little, he couldn't pronounce "SP" sounds.....it all came out "ST" instead. And in Dutch, "play" is "spelen" and steal is "stelen" so we'd be at McDonalds or Ikea where they have a kids play area, and he'd ask if he could go "steal". We made sure to repeat it correctly, "Yes, you can go PLAY" so that anyone who overheard wouldn't think we were teaching our kid to steal. The other one was more minor....pacifer is "speen" and stone is "steen" so he'd ask for his stone and we'd say "Here's your PACIFIER", but that wasn't nearly as embarassing as "stealing". It's so CUTE when they mispronounce things though!!

My daughter mixed up F and P in two words (unrelated) and used to put an F in the word for couch instead of “p” - so she would say canafé instead of canapé - and P in the word for finished instead of F - so pini instead of fini. When the day came that she pronounced couch properly I said to a friend "the canafé is pini 😢" 😆

Mine are far from little anymore ( 27 and 26) so I can not weight in on the different methods available now to carry a young one.

But as a mechanical engineer I can tell you that the force of gravity cannot be diminished while carrying a baby/toddler
(unless you decrease the toddler mass or move to smaller planet/celestial body !!)

All you can do is shift the force from one body part to another to avoid excessive fatigue

So whether you only use your arms or shift it to the shoulders (sling) and lower back (hip hugger) is up to you

(and I remember holding my youngest Cassie for the entire duration of Illuminations (approx 20 min) when she was 6 - so I feel your pain)
