I HAVE A SOLUTION to all the problems!!!!!!

UNFREEZE Walt! Haven't we found a modern cure for what killed him (pancreatic cancer)? Wait... No because that's what killed Steve Jobs last year...

The similarities between Walt and Steve are amazing!!!!!

I would love to see the man again but unfortunately to common misperception, Walt was in fact cremated and NOT frozen. The freezing thing is a commonly passed around myth.

Cremated? That's going to take a lot of imagineers with tweezers to get him back in running order! Maybe they should practice on the Yeti.

I know, but it is true that he did look into before he died. If he did in fact go through with it, his family soon undid it and cremated him. If the later is true, we probably will never know as the family is entitled to some secrecy and privacy.

I think in the opinion of most people, Soarin' is an E-ticket. It's current state (poor image quality) would be the thing that downgrades it, but it's popularity hasn't waned to the same extent as say The Great Movie Ride. TGMR was an E-ticket at the time it opened, and should still be considered one today, but it's stale and simply doesn't have the demand as some of the other attractions in that park.
I haven't seen the EPCOT version of Soaring, but I've seen the DCA version twice. I don't remember any image quality issues. Did they cheapen the EPCOT version with a lower quality screen or is this due to poor maintenance?

POST POST EDIT: TGMR is a great E ticket. If its becoming stale, a simple rehab that includes updating should do the trick. Do you know if this is in the company's future plans?

Simple question: What has George K. done so far as WDW President? Or are these things still behind the scenes secrets that will be revealed in a future project announcement (that all of us are waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for)?

Give the man a chance to take his jacket off and have a cup of coffee! Even if he is the "ultimate savior" he will not be able to undue this many years of bad management overnight. It requires a plan and that is his job one!

@Genie of the Lamp how did you manage to respond to this post before I posted it. I posted and immediately scrolled up and there was your like. I appreciate it but is there some form of Privacy and security problem happening here? Just wondering!

I have no idea. When I liked your post it was already up. I would hope not. We don't need problems like with what were seeing with MM+ to happen on here. I just react quick I guess. I'm known for having quick reflexes. I have pretty good wifi connection as well. So back to George, I imagine he's doing much of his work now behing the scenes with the Pirates Interactive game, DTD planning/final touches, and NGE which is where the most of his tenuous and stressful work is taking place. Probably by the time that "Around the World Presentation" occurs in late April, I'd imagine we'd see him out in public while in the parks more. I would also think that he's heavily trying to get a start on Carsland to DHS. Who would've thought right now he'd be the hide and seek champion in the World.

I figured as much but I kinda like to stay with the current mentality of the boards these days.:D I was just kidding with ya, but you are, by god, fast. :)

I do find the lack of reported sightings a bit odd given his history of being out in the parks at DL, but I have to assume we'll see more of George K. eventually.

Actually, that's exactly what they did. DCA has a clean room for their projectors, Epcot doesn't.
Why the f$&@ would they do that for? DCA was already being criticized for being built on the cheap; then, they have to cheapen its best attraction? Could this be fixed?

I'm learning now of all these bad decisions... This now joins the list that includes DCA's cheap TZToT clone! These mistakes will be costly to fix and they should be fixed. Isn't it ironic that building cheap is costly and actually very expensive, once the damage to customer satisfaction and long term fixes are taken into account?

You know, WDW's PotC has been criticized for being a cheap clone of the DL version. It is, but they at least did a good job copying the best parts in a respectable manner. There's no excuse for the cheapening of Soaring for EPCOT and TZToT for DCA! With Soaring, the screen is the whole ride! If you detract from that, you detract from the whole experience! With TZToT, the Fifth Dimension room has the best special effects of any Disney ride (IMHO) and makes it unique as the only elevator ride that moves horizontally (as well as vertical); so, cutting that cuts the essential part of the experience! With PotC, the best part is the canon battle. While this scene is bigger and more elaborate in the DL version (better and more AA figures with two big boats), at least it wasn't cut out completely from the WDW version, while retaining the spirit of the original!

Uggggggghhhhhhhhh!! I should have my blood pressure checked!

It could be because he realizes things are so bad here and because he has to take responsibility for the current state of things (even though he really isn't responsible for the mess its in) that he's ashamed and embarrassed about it and that things need to be fixed to less embarrassing state first before being seen in public (who will, naturally, associate his face to with whatever state of condition the parks are at the time of being sighted). This is a big task. I would be hiding too, if I were him. I wouldn't come out until the parks were at a condition that I would be proud of and which I could brag proudly that I was the one who was instrumental in making everything and organizing everything into being that way!

Or he could be playing hide and go seek. If that's the case, all someone needs to do is walk around the parks and yell "Come out, come out where ever you are!"

If it's the later, try the MK utilidor system or one of the boarded up building at PI.

Actually, that's exactly what they did. DCA has a clean room for their projectors, Epcot doesn't.

I had a chatty supervisor at Soarin' explain that exact thing to me while waiting in the queue at Soarin'. There's a medical grade filtration system in both projection rooms at the DCA Soarin', and they cut that from the Epcot version which allows dust and dirt and decay to infect the Epcot film prints very quickly.

The DCA version also closes each theater for a week of screen cleaning and painting once a year, plus general maintenance on the "carriages" which lift you up and into the screen to keep them from squeaking, keep the motion control in full effect, and keep the smell effects working right. The DCA rehab for Soarin' was this past January, with each theater down for a week at a time but the attraction still open. I rode the DCA Soarin' at the last AP party last week, and it looks and flies and smells fantastic.

I can't remember the last time anyone mentioned a similar Soarin' rehab for the Epcot theaters, to clean the IMAX screens and rehab the mechanics. In addition to the superior filtration system in the projection room, the California Adventure version of Soarin' is kept in very good condition.

Just another example of the increasing differences between the two coasts and how they operate their parks. I have to wonder how much George K. will be able to help with institutional differences like that???

Glad somebody likes it. I only rode it once, but I remember it as a colossal waste of time.
What?! You gotta be kidding me! The Wizard of Oz scene... Raiders of the Lost Ark... Cassablanca... Alien...

Especially the Wizard of Oz scene!

They just need to add some recent movie mega hits to update it... Maybe Avatar and so on.

There was an actual scheduled downtime this month but it got cancelled. They were going to close each theater for 3 days each for extra cleaning and big cleanup of the film cabinets. They were going to close one theater and keep the other one open, so it wouldn't have been that bad. But the Maintenance Director cancelled it, but I don't know if it was his idea or someone above him.

At least he will know and be familiar with the differences between the two operations. Now that he is familiarizing himself thoroughly with WDW, he's probably now realizing how big of a challenge his job is forthcoming. Let's just hope he's up to the challenge and doesn't get frightened by it and quit (which could happen)!
