Yep. All three Scuttles are impressive, Ursula is impressive, one or two of the Ariels is impressive. Most of the other animatronics are not true animatronics. Like you said, a plastic Starfish attached to a spinning mechanism is not an animatronic. There's also a lot of static figures that don't move at all, with the rider given a lot of time to see them not moving. Very tacky. I think perhaps the funniest thing is that it makes Ursula seem like she helped Ariel, didn't do anything wrong, and then was "killed" for it!You, my friend, have his this nail right on the head! I like how they say 200 and some animatronics... Uh... if you count 150 star fish twirling around an animatronic, then yes... but there are like 4 animatronics that actually move. I saw this in DL in May and was bored. Kids might like it, but there was no story behind it. It was exactly as you stated - cliffnotes version of the movie!

For me, there's no question that what is already there at New Fantasyland looks good. Its just that... its about exactly what I would expect from a new Disney themed area in the most visited theme park in the world. Carsland has the added "wow factor" in that the rockwork isn't just pretty to look at, its an impressive feat. It looks and seems bigger than it is, its huge, and it successfully blocks out the real world for a huge portion of the park. And RSR of course, is a pretty amazing ride.I thought Carsland was fantastic but considering all the hate on here lately about WDW, it's easy to dismiss the good parts of New Fantasyland.
Visually, New Fantasyland is pretty spectacular. When it's complete it will look that much better. Carsland is also very visually appealing. It's fair to say that visually speaking they are comparable, but Carsland probably has a slight edge.
