Where was the boat at fantasmic?

This is likely a Next Gen enhancement project.

By May 1, guests will feel as though Peter Pan is swirling his ribbon directly at EACH GUEST!

Let the Memories Begin.

I'm curious about the new "preshow". Anyone care to elaborate? The only one I can remember was ages ago with Streetmosphere characters. That was entertaining!

Probably that Compared to the now 4th gen DL version, DHS' isn't worth seeing.

I totally disagree, WDW's fantasmic is a wonderful show and to the layman when things aren't working they probably don't even notice....

I find it hard for someone to stand by DL's and mock WDW's especially after all the trouble with Murphy!

Its just basically two CM's with mic's. They play trivia with the crowd, go around and talk to people, and are just generally very annoying. I dont know what it is about Lulu, but after a long day of Hollywood Studios, the last thing I want to hear is here YELLING into the mic for an hour before the show. It just wouldn't end. They went all the way up until the show started with fake Disney enthusiasm. Almost got up and left.

Not old, just vintage.
The maintenance issues are yet another reason to skip the pathetic WDW incarnation of this show entirely.

I concur.

Bingo! The DL show (even if Murphy wasn't in it) is 10x better than DHS. I understand that the average visitor to WDW will never know this but it is still frustrating. There is no reason why DHS (in their dedicated stadium) can't do even half of the stuff DL manages to cram into the middle of a park.

Exactly. The DL version was vastly superior to the show even before Murphy. With Murphy, it's not even a question. The DHS show plays in a specially built stadium. As such, they should be able to do things that they can't do on the Rivers of America. The fact that they don't is sad.

To say nothing of the fact that DL has gotten at least 4 major upgrades to their Fantasmic, while the WDW version is almost the exact same show that opened almost 15 years ago.

Yesterday while we were approaching Epcot from the back gate we heard a boom like fireworks go off about 630pm. The boat captains were walking over to my kids to give them stickers and said, "those aren't supposed to go off now, hope no one got hurt". Maybe that had something to do with the show?

As noted, it was being pushed around for the past several days. And, the Mickey Lifts *were* working correctly on the 28th (I think it was the 28th...maybe the 27th. I'm on vacation, and have forgotten what day it is!)

I didn't think they were so bad. Better than just sitting around listening to canned music and waiting for the inevitable wave.

Please note I am totally neutral to DL and WDW I love them both equally for different reasons so I am not WDW bias when I say this....

But what is WDW's missing? I've seen WDW's about 20 times I've seen DL's 4 and I didn't notice much different.....in fact IMO WDW's was better....

On the other hand DL's Fireworks were far superior.

Where to begin?

-The dragon. DL uses a full audio animatronic dragon that breathes fire. WDW uses a dragon head attached to PVC pipe with some black drapes dangling off of it.

-DL has a Little Mermaid sequence featuring Ursula, and giant Flotsam and Jetsom characters. The way Flotsam and Jetsom menacingly lurk around the water is eerily real.

-The Peter Pan sequence is vastly superior to the dull Pocahontas segment.

-The Steamboat Willie boat at the end of the WDW show looks like a cheap reproduction when compared to the Sailing Ship Columbia that DL employs.

Also, I'm no DL partisan as anyone who knows me will attest. However, on this particular issue, there is simply no argument. The DL version of the show is vastly superior to WDW.

Not to mention HD video projection, superior lasers and programming, syncrolites, all new LED lighting, reconfigured pyro, programmable mountain strobes...the tech list goes on and on. Disneylands is now technically version 4. DHS is still limping on version one.

Ahhh yes, now I remember Flotsam and Jetsom and they were fantastic as was the Peter Pan segment.

Murphy was broken on two of my viewings.... I remember him being a much darker dragon than the more cartoon like WDW one I don't remember him bring better or worse just more adult and scary.

I saw the show with four friends last Tuesday - they had never seen it before - and the 'pre-show' was abysmal. I just wanted to get up and scream, "Make it stop, make it stop!" The two hosts were so Kathie Lee phony, and the faux enthusiasm forcing dumb questions to the crowd at a painful volume almost ruined the show for me.

That being said, once the show began my friends were mesmerized. I do not know what the DL version is like, but my group loved this HS version. While the boat at the end was being powered by a separate powerboat, it made no difference to the majority of people there. The young boy behind me was saying to him mom "Look at [this character] and Look, mom it's [that character]" and to him, that made the moment.

We don't need to focus on the issue that the boat was powered by something other than its own accord - let's look at the overall entertainment quotient for this show and from my perspective, it was highly entertaining.

It's attitudes like yours that keep things like this continually happening. Disney lacks accountability anymore largely because no one HOLDS them accountable for their decisions. If the boat wasn't able to move on its own, it should have been absent and the characters should have come out on the island instead. End of story.

The motorboat pushing it stands out SO badly and is much worse show than an ALTERNATE finale. They've done it in the past when the steamboat was out for refurbishment, there is no reason they couldn't have done the same thing in this situation.

I made a point to complain to Guest Relations before I left for the night how the boat was incredibly bad show and that it's absolutely ridiculous considering it JUST came back up from a refurb. Pardon, but what the HELL were they doing that entire time it was down? Not to mention the fact that up until recently Fantasmic was dark more days of the week than it was running, why didn't these things get fixed with all that excess downtime?
