Yesterday afternoon/last night was beyond bittersweet for us. Sorry, I didn’t want to bring the thread down, so didn’t post about it sooner.
We had to put our beloved Ranger down.
Bittersweet because all the happy kiddos in their Halloween costumes coming to our door made it better. Life goes on.
He had a cancerous mass on his neck, and had not eaten anything in two days. He wouldn’t even eat bacon we offered him. He was suffering. It was time. Waiting one more day, based on timing, would have been cruel. I really wish they could talk to us, but, when it comes right down to it, they really do in their own way. You could see it in his eyes.
We’ve been through this so many times over the last 36-ish years, but it definitely doesn’t get any easier. If anything, as you age, you start thinking of your own mortality a bit more.
Anyway, I said my goodbyes before they (Carolyn, Matthew and Sarah) took him to the vet.
All dogs go to heaven.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. It’s always hard to lose them.
