Yesterday afternoon/last night was beyond bittersweet for us. Sorry, I didn’t want to bring the thread down, so didn’t post about it sooner.
We had to put our beloved Ranger down.
Bittersweet because all the happy kiddos in their Halloween costumes coming to our door made it better. Life goes on.
He had a cancerous mass on his neck, and had not eaten anything in two days. He wouldn’t even eat bacon we offered him. He was suffering. It was time. Waiting one more day, based on timing, would have been cruel. I really wish they could talk to us, but, when it comes right down to it, they really do in their own way. You could see it in his eyes.
We’ve been through this so many times over the last 36-ish years, but it definitely doesn’t get any easier. If anything, as you age, you start thinking of your own mortality a bit more.

Anyway, I said my goodbyes before they (Carolyn, Matthew and Sarah) took him to the vet.
All dogs go to heaven.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. It’s always hard to lose them.

The loss of Ranger is heartbreaking to you and your family. You've written about him (and shared photos) for years now, and his passing is very sad. At least you know he had a very good life while he was here, amongst those who loved him.

I am in a kerfuffle because I ordered some clothes off of a website, only for them to be too big. So I returned them and ordered the right size. Now today they are cheaper by like $15-20 a piece, so I've placed another order, with the intent to return the previous order. So now I have about 4 orders coming from one website, and I have to make sure I keep everything straight once it gets here, so I can return the right items and get the right amount of money back.

Online shopping is convenient, until you realize something doesn't fit.

Thank you very much, Minnie.
He had a good life with us, and he was a great companion to us all.
While Shirley (my MIL) was still with us, he would often go lay at her feet in front of her chair while she watched TV. She loved that he did that, and mentioned it several times. He comforted her.
He was a good pup.

Regarding Halloween…
We have fun with it. We don’t do gore, we do silly-spooky. We embrace it. It’s fun for us, and just another thing to share with our neighbors and help bring us all closer together. I have enjoyed Halloween as far back as I can remember.
As I posted earlier, it was just so heartwarming to have all the kiddos coming to our door. They were all having sooooo much fun, and we got many compliments on our decorations…!!! :)

That being said, we love Thanksgiving and Christmas more…!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Later today, a big, blowup Thanksgiving turkey will replace our big, blowup Halloween pumpkin…!!!!! :hilarious:
Life’s too short to not have as much fun as is reasonably ;) Possible…!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious:
Did you dress as a Disney Villain or a character?

The problem is, there are so few physical stores that carry decent items anymore. And the store I'm ordering from has it's closest location 2.5 hours away.

I completely get that.
I’m not a “clothes horse”, and you don’t sound like you are either. You just want what you want, and to be done with it, like myself. I just have dressed so basically over the years. I’m still wearing 5-year-old jeans (and of course, t-shirts, shorts and flip flops ;)) from Walmart.
We have so many different stores within minutes of our home, it’s almost ridiculous 🤪, but if so many of those options are not available for you, the internet is definitely understandable for your shopping needs…!!! :)

I'm so sorry for your loss, and just for having to make that decision.

I always prefer to shop at a local store, and take the item home right away. Problem is, that (unless I check online first for inventory sizes and colors), if I go in a store just on a whim, they don't seem to have what I want. Luckily, I don't shop often anyway, but the reality of the situation now is that I now do probably do 50/50 between in-store, and online.

Thank you very much.
Making the decision itself wasn’t tough, as he was obviously, but quietly, suffering.
The tough part was just having to let him go, as he was, quite simply, a beloved family member.
The person taking it the hardest is our autistic son, Matthew. We very much have to maintain ourselves around him when things like this happen, as it will just snowball if we don’t.
We don’t try to comfort him with platitudes like “It’s the cycle of life” or “Time heals all wounds”, etc. We let him express his emotions and tell him that it’s perfectly fine.
Carolyn is less emotional, but she, of course, has had her moments since yesterday afternoon. I’m my usual stoic (stupid…?! 🤔😉) self…I’ll just blame that on my Pop…!!! ;)
Anyway, thanks again for your condolences…!!! :)

I'm so sorry. Ranger was a handsome fella. I know exactly how you feel, just a month ago, we had to say goodbye to our much-loved Rascal after 14 years of loving kitty companionship, in a similar fashion.

He'd been going downhill very slowly, and one day I noticed that he was breathing very heavily and his eyes had lost their "spark". We took him to the vet the next morning and she said his heart and kidneys were very stressed (we'd been giving him meds for hyperthyroidism). He might have had a few more weeks in him, but why make the poor thing continue to suffer? So we did the hard thing that morning.

We still think we hear the bell on his collar, and we miss him cuddling on the sofa with us every night.

We all can take comfort that we gave them lots of love and a good life with us, as they were genuinely members of the family.

. Regarding Halloween…

I normally don't mind Halloween, and normally I have fun decorating, I just wasn't feeling it this year.

But wait, there’s more…and, this is the best…!!! :)
I got a call from my mother yesterday regarding my next youngest bros cancer.
He’s eating again and gaining weight, to the point where they can start more treatment…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull:
His tumor has not grown during the downtime, from what she told me, so this is looking really good…!!!!!
As I posted earlier, one seriously bittersweet day, indeed.
That is truly wonderful news. Continued improvement to him. 🙏
