One school holiday down. We only had a half day with students, because it was the end of the quarter. It was nice to not have an entire day of craziness. Our 1st grade team dressed up as baseball players. We got custom baseball jerseys made with our school name on the front and our last names on the back.

Even though kids were only there for a half day, I'm still exhausted. Halloween landing on a Friday should be a law.
Oh the jerseys sound cool and it's a nice souvenier! Do you do classroom parties where kids are supposed to bring treats and such? I remember there was a roster every year and parents were assigned a particular holiday party they had to bring treats for. Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's day....I always loved it when someone brought peanut butter blossoms because my mom didn't like those and wouldn't make them and I loved them. And for halloween, every class got to do a parade through the school to show off their costumes. I was wondering now with allergies and stuff if you are allowed to do treats like that in school anymore.

Yes, we send a sign up through a class communication app. We had chips, a sweet treat, etc. Our grade level did a Costume Show. We all sat in a circle, then we called groups to the middle, such as superheroes, witches, etc.

That sounds so fun!! I used to love showing off my costume when I was little. I was a ladybug in kindergarten....and I remember I was a snowman in like...3rd grade...and I remember being snoopy one year, but that was before I was in school. And wonder woman when I was like...3. Those are the only ones I can remember.

I never liked Halloween as a kid, and it's still not my favorite. But as I've been teaching longer, I've enjoyed the dressing up aspect more. I always hated it as a kid. The year we did the Halloween party at MK, I was Anakin Skywalker. I also remember being the grim reaper once at a school party.

But now, I'm learning to have fun with Halloween and even different dress up days at school. I never wanted to stand out or be silly, but the kids love it. Last year for Polar Express Day, we got to wear pajamas like they do in the book/movie. I wore a Christmas onesie. Half the kids loved it. Half of them didn't think anything of it. The staff had fun with it. I also wore Christmas Hey Dude shoes last year, and those were a hit. My "school dress up" section of my closet is growing.

Our end of the quarter was oddly on Monday. Today we had a full day of crazy. I survived and so did the children. I may have been counting the minutes until my bubble bath time though.

Halloween has always been my least favorite holiday. I always feel like I have to do something with the kids at school though, but otherwise I am a Halloween Scrooge.

I would've been happy to give it a pass this year, considering the eye-watering price of Halloween candy. I said, its a Friday night, we can go.out to dinner (we very rarely eat out) instead.

But he insisted there'd be a sale on candy. And last week Shop Rite had prices that didn't sting too badly. So we bought a large and a small bag on Sunday and he came right home and started on outdoor decorations.

Friday is one of the three days each week that I visit my dad and give him dinner (despite having a dispensation on account of his age, he still will only eat fish on Fridays, so I bring him a salmon fillet). By the time I got home at 6:35, most of the doorbell-ringers were done and hubby had dealt with them all. Needless to say, however, halfway through our dinner, the doorbell rang. He said, "you can get it,I've done all the others".

No way, buddy, you're the one who wanted to do Halloween. I was content to have the lights off and the curtains closed all evening.

He was not pleased.

He brought that on himself.

Go Jays.

(I think he's rooting for the Dodgers)

I'm in another room, about to commence the second half of the book I started reading when I couldn't sleep at 1am

Oh, and meanwhile, we haven't even opened the small bag of candy. And the big one is barely half gone.

All of which I'm going to wind up eating, because aforementioned husband doesn't eat chocolate.

He thought we'd get so many callers, he was only giving each one two pieces of remarkably small candy. It's really incredible (and stupid) how confectioners have deployed shrinkflation on their product. 😡

I feel your pain and send hugs. Mom and stepmom will also not eat meat on Friday, Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve......................... you know the drill, but they have slightly expanded what they'll eat. Sometimes they'll go to an Indian place that will make food horribly bland if you ask because they have several vegetarian dishes, once in a while they'll get pizza but mostly they'll go to the fish and chips place, not that either should drive that far. The shouldn't drive isn't due to age, it's due to neither ever being a decent driver.
As for Halloween, IMHO Trunk or Treat is better. I wasn't a fan when we moved to the woods but it really is easier. It's set hours (our local one has a little party before the kids gather goodies and a trunk/hatch decorating contest) The best part now that my kids don't go any more, I drop candy with a neighbor who goes, and I stay inside where it is warm and nobody knocks on my door late at night
Me not sleeping at 1:30 because it's so windy the power has gone off several times and certain items beep when it goes out and dh is off puttering around making noise. At least he ordered something for his parents for Christmas. Just about done shopping including items for baking:joyfull:

I'm the one in our house who does Halloween. I decorate with E, and I hand out the candy. Last year we got about 30 trick or treaters because it was an organized thing they did. This year, I got 4. And I had bought my candy weeks ago and hid it in E's room so the boys wouldn't eat it all before Halloween, and I had been expecting to get the neighborhood letter with the Ghost for my window to indicate kids could trick or treat at my house and how many kids they were expecting to participate, so I got 5 bags of candy....3 of chocolate bars, 1 of gummies, and 1 of miscellaneous stuff like smarties, taffy, etc. And I got 4 kids...I could have just given them each a whole bag and still had leftovers.

Good for you making him answer the door himself. If you are the one who insists on doing it, then you are the one who has to do it.

Yesterday afternoon/last night was beyond bittersweet for us. Sorry, I didn’t want to bring the thread down, so didn’t post about it sooner.
We had to put our beloved Ranger down.
Bittersweet because all the happy kiddos in their Halloween costumes coming to our door made it better. Life goes on.
He had a cancerous mass on his neck, and had not eaten anything in two days. He wouldn’t even eat bacon we offered him. He was suffering. It was time. Waiting one more day, based on timing, would have been cruel. I really wish they could talk to us, but, when it comes right down to it, they really do in their own way. You could see it in his eyes.
We’ve been through this so many times over the last 36-ish years, but it definitely doesn’t get any easier. If anything, as you age, you start thinking of your own mortality a bit more.

Anyway, I said my goodbyes before they (Carolyn, Matthew and Sarah) took him to the vet.
All dogs go to heaven.

A photo tribute to Ranger below…

Regarding Halloween…
We have fun with it. We don’t do gore, we do silly-spooky. We embrace it. It’s fun for us, and just another thing to share with our neighbors and help bring us all closer together. I have enjoyed Halloween as far back as I can remember.
As I posted earlier, it was just so heartwarming to have all the kiddos coming to our door. They were all having sooooo much fun, and we got many compliments on our decorations…!!! :)

That being said, we love Thanksgiving and Christmas more…!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Later today, a big, blowup Thanksgiving turkey will replace our big, blowup Halloween pumpkin…!!!!! :hilarious:
Life’s too short to not have as much fun as is reasonably ;) Possible…!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious:

But wait, there’s more…and, this is the best…!!! :)
I got a call from my mother yesterday regarding my next youngest bros cancer.
He’s eating again and gaining weight, to the point where they can start more treatment…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull:
His tumor has not grown during the downtime, from what she told me, so this is looking really good…!!!!!
As I posted earlier, one seriously bittersweet day, indeed.

Not sure if I would have approached given he was obviously having issues. Somethings are best left to the professionals. You never know how he might have reacted. Like you said hopefully he gets the help he needs!!

Yea, short of makin’ a phone call, I’m stayin’ as far away from crazy as possible. I try not to invite trouble into my life.
As you posted, leave it to the pros.
