Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

We had a wee encounter with Hulk decades ago. He waved to us and did a shoutout in 91, maybe 92.

We used to pass his house multiple times/day on the Intracoastal, on the way to our hotel. He was out watering his flowering bushes/trees one evening and we recognized him immediately!

We were stopped at a red light, so we shouted “Hey Hulk” and he waved and shouted something back. Don’t remember what. Might have been “brother”.

That is a great memory…!!! :)
Unfortunately, I never met him, but he was, without a doubt, one of a kind…!!!

Wednesday, July 2nd, and Audrey’s 4th birthday cruise cont….!!! :)

The last time we were in Costa Maya was on our first family cruise, back in December of 2017.
Relatively speaking, it’s a newer cruise port/destination. It opened in 2001, but was severely damaged by hurricane Dean in August of 2007. It was rebuilt and reopened in October of 2008. There has, definitely, been a lot more development there since we last visited.

One of the main attractions is the excursions to Mayan ruins in, relatively, close proximity to the port.
We decided to forgo any excursions on this day, and just leisurely check out the shops, etc. in the port area…!!! :)

We got off the boat about 10a, and headed up the pier… :)

Some random pics after getting off the pier and before headin’ into the main port area… :)

Just got home from Wicked. It was absolutely amazing. Best show I've ever seen. I was captivated the entire time and just drawn in. So funny. So touching. Such great vocal talent from the performers. I already want to see it again.

I'll share more when I have more time, but off to bed now!

@PUSH , even though you're not following Shark Week this summer, I did want to share one (less than 1 min. video), of a guest, Darby Allin, who was on last night.

He's one of my favorite wrestling "entertainers" from AEW Wrestling. Darby's always been known as an adrenaline junkie with his various antics. (Side note: with his hiking guides, he summited Mt. Everest on May 18th).

Anyway, here's the video clip (click on spoiler, turn on audio) -- After the midpoint of the clip, you'll see him feeding sharks under water! He held out a pole with shark food on the end -- and the shark goes for it! That's a big NOPE for me! :p

100% agree.

I'm not eating anything fed to me on a pole either.

I haven't been in anything. That was never my jam. I can't remember all the musicals/plays our high school put on... one was Huck Finn? As a teacher, we go up to the high school with our class each year to see a preview of their musical. So we've seen Suessical the Musical and last year was High School Musical. I can't remember anything else, though. Clearly they didn't have a huge impact on me. 😂

I'm also a voice snob, if that's a thing. I have a hard time enjoying something like that if their voice isn't in tune and hitting the right notes. That might sound like a given, but without trying to offend high schoolers, they usually are not very talented. Rural Wisconsin doesn't tend to produce a lot of Broadway caliber singers. Although my class in high school did have one who was really good, but she ended up moving to Michigan to attend a music school. She was also very stuck up and made it known to everyone that she was far more talented than them and smarter than them. While true, the holier than thou attitude rubbed me the wrong way.
Yeah, it can be very hit or miss. When I was in 8th grade, that was the first year that they did a musical for our school, and it was 7th-12th grades. They chose paint your wagon, for some reason, which has very few female roles. It's about the gold rush and all the miners. If you wanted a singing role as a girl, you had to be willing to play a man, and I wasn't. I was a good singer, but I was still in junior high and all the singing roles went to upper classmen. The one girl had a nice timbre to her voice, but she had serious pitch problems. I know I was a better singer, but she had seniority, which shouldn't count, but it did. The next year, I was the only kid in my school who made All-state music, and I was one of only 7 freshman in the state to make it in the choir. None of the upperclassmen who she had given roles to the previous year made it, so the music teacher gave me the leading role in the musical that year, even over the girls who had seniority.

My senior year, I got sick and lost my voice 3 days before the performance. I had JUST enough left by the night of the performance that I could sing, but the high note in I could have danced all night was pretty weak. But I did it. I never had pitch problems....I have a degree in Music Education with a focus on Vocal music. Technically you don't need a degree to perform, though most broadway performers do. I COULD do broadway, but I don't think I could compete. I'm a good singer, but I don't LIKE singing solo. I would much rather be part of the chorus. When I was in high school, I was "the girl who sings" and it was kind of a given that I was going to do the lead role in the musicals, but because I wasn't a popular girl, and music wasn't the "cool" thing to do, I was ostricized a lot for it, and heckled, etc....it rather took the fun away from it, so I haven't wanted to do that since high school. I did join a musical and opera theater group when I moved here to the Netherlands, and I played Iolanthe in Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe, but while it's the Title role, it's actually a very SMALL role, and I kind of got roped into it against my will. Anyway while I was the best in my tiny 250 person school, I'm bottom rung in the grand scheme of things. I'm good, but I'm not among the best, if that makes sense. I can still belt a Disney song out as I'm baking, though!!

Another bit of fun…
Last night, as I’m channel surfin’, I see an ad for some kinda’ prostrate thing with one of my old firms home designs in it.
It was a design that many liked, so the original custom client decided others could build it for a cut, as long as it was built outta’ state, and the exterior tweaked a bit. IIRC, it was built 3 more times.
Anyway, it was pretty cool to see the design in a commercial…!!! :geek:
The original design below from our website (still accessible), and the version from the commercial below that…!!! :)

I initially planned to type a few thoughts about Wicked, but it clearly become a tad more than that. I apologize for the long post, but I'm also not sorry because I loved it so much. So if you care to read, I hope you enjoy my ramblings. :)

So as I was saying, Wicked was fantastic. If someone asked me to go again tomorrow, I'd say yes in a heartbeat. But unfortunately there aren't any reasonable tickets left while they're in Madison (yes, I did check all the remaining dates).

I was familiar with the first act, as I saw the movie and have gotten many a TikTok about it since the movie came out. I also can rock out to most of the songs from the first act, as I know several of them word for word. The second act was mostly new to me. I had known some spoilers before, but not all. If you are trying to avoid act 2 spoilers for any reason, stop reading here.

I knew that Fiyero was the Scarecrow. That had been spoiled by TikTok. I knew Madame Morrible cast the tornado to kill Nessa (and I had known Nessa was the Wicked Witch of the East). I did NOT know that Boq was the Tin Man, or the cub was the Lion. And most shockingly, I had no clue that Elphaba lived! I should have realized when Fiyero made a point about people being gullible when talking about a bucket of water being able to kill her. I thought it was strange, but didn't question it.

The second act also flew by! We got to For Good, which I know word for word, and know it's at the end. I couldn't believe the last hour had gone by so quickly.

With For Good, and many other songs, I was totally captivated. It's not too often my brain focuses on one thing (I have self-diagnosed myself with ADHD, partially because my brain is constantly thinking about a million things at a time). So when I do focus on that one thing so intently, you know it's good.

The actress who played Elphaba had an incredible voice. The best voice I've ever heard live. Before that, I would have said Carrie Underwood, who is a heck of a vocalist. But Elphaba was amazing. The Wizard and I was top notch. It's one of my favorites. I'll save Defying Gravity for the end of this post.

The actress who played Glinda was also very good. She was so funny. I felt she got better as the show went on, both vocally and with her acting. The musical as a whole is incredibly funny. It's such little things and one-liners that are so simple, yet so perfect for the moment. And the cast delivered the lines beautifully.

The set design was great. I loved the moving pieces and the lights. I was sitting right up front, so I got a good view of everything. I'll show a picture in the next post. The costumes were well designed, too.

Now, for Defying Gravity. Holy (insert word here). That was literally one of the best things I've ever witnessed in my life. I went with friends, but had joined in late, so I was a few seats down from them. As we were driving home, she told me she looked around to take it all in during that scene, and I had my jaw dropped and my hand over my mouth. I was in awe. It was so cool. Goosebumps. A lady a few seats down from me cried. I was on the verge. The song is so well written, but the recordings can't fully convey the feelings of being there in a live setting. It's so powerful.

I found my face scrunching up in a good way with so many of the songs. You know how you hear something that just sounds so good that you can't help it? I had that multiple times. I love music, especially incredible vocalists.

Lastly, the curtain call was so much fun. I had such a big smile on my face and was so happy for everyone there. They did such a great job. I don't know any of them, but I was so proud for them. And you could feel that in the entire room. I get the hype for musical theater.
