Not sure if any of you use Spotify, but Spotify Wrapped came out today. It's an annual recap of your listening stats from the past year.

I listened to something for 37,398 minutes, which is almost 26 days. Of those minutes, 23,368 were on podcasts, almost every minute was a Survivor related podcast (shocker). My top song was I Had Some Help by Post Malone, featuring Morgan Wallen. I was in the top 0.001% of listeners for that song. My music evolution was interesting. In January I was mainly listening to pop. In August I was listening to country. In October I was listening to rap. That pretty much sums up my music taste... no preference in genre, as long as the song is good.

Here is mine on Spotify. I listen to a lot of tiki stuff and some French stuff. Although the swing band Phat cat swinger should be my number one but I own a lot of their stuff and I tend to listen to that outside of Spotify.
I guess my biggest listening day was April 14, now I have to figure out what I was doing that day!IMG_3440.png

I officially have ticket to see Wicked on Sunday! I've been wanting to see it since it came out. I've never seen the musical, but it's coming to Madison next summer, and I'm hoping to go. I enjoy the music from it, and I've been jamming out to it the past few weeks.

We are planning on going Friday night. I saw the musical in Chicago and it was great.

Saw it on Tuesday - I will admit the first half or so of the movie I found myself wondering about the hype (I found it good, but not excellent) and somewhere along the movie the excellent kicks in 😉.

It is long though, and our showing started at 8:30 pm and luckily with very few pre-movie ads and trailers because getting up for work yesterday required more effort 😉

So, I got a phone call this morning from the office manager of the architectural firm I used to work for.
I had a substantial 401K through them that, of course, is now totally under my own control.
What I did not know is, the firm closed permanently, less than a month after I was gone (back in early March).
I was a bit surprised, but not totally shocked.
2 of the 3 principal partners were at retirement age, and were both worth well into 7 figures. The other principal partner and junior partner are into 7 figures as well, but only in their early 50’s, so decided to found their own firm.
Anyway, the call was in regard to the cash balance profit sharing pension plan the firm also provided for us.
I’ve definitely kept up with the 401K, but basically forgot about the profit sharing thing, as it was controlled by the firm, and not through John Hancock like the 401K. 🙃
We could find out what was in that account any time we wanted, and they briefed us individually on it once a year, but it was more out of site, out of mind.
Let’s just say, I’ve been referring to myself as semi-retired over the last several months (while at home taking care of terminally ill MIL, etc.), but now I’m officially calling myself retired…!!!!!!!!!!! 😃
I’ll probably get something part time and low stress, at some point, just to get my ol’ beeeeeeehind outta’ the house, but no more rat race craziness…!!!!! 🤪🤣😉
Feels good…!!!!! 😊
Congratulations! That must be a great feeling to not HAVE to get up and go to work every morning. I imagine it's a lot different to just be able to do it if you feel like it. Enjoy your retirement!

I have not used Spotify, but my daughter does, and her top artist was Abba, and 4 of her top 5 songs were also Abba. It kind of surprised me, really, because she's very eclectic. When we bake or cook together, we often turn on Disney songs and sing along, I often turn on Phantom of the Opera and belt, but I do it on Youtube, not spotify. So she helped me set up a Spotify account last night, and I'm going to go make a few more play lists. I have one of my Disney favorites, Pitch Perfect, Broadway (not complete yet), and I have a couple of albums that I added, but I want to make one of Country songs, and one of Jazz, and probably one of 50s, and maybe one of 80s and 90s. Country music doesn't really exist over here, so whenever we're in the US, we listen to a lot of it...it would be nice to be able to keep up with the latest. Back in 2022, we had a lot of fun with the stuff on the radio...there was a handful that just played over and over and we got to know those really well. I'm excited to add them to my list.

Thank you…!!! 🙂
Yes, it’s a great feeling, but I really wasn’t totally sure until yesterday’s revelation. We had savings before we sold our old home, and have even more after. Our old home was in a neighborhood referred to as the “Golden Triangle” (not like it sounds, as it’s decidedly middle class, but the location is considered prime for that area), in far northwest Austin, bordered on three sides by two main highways, and a main road. As a result, we got a good price for it.
I spent all those months, at home full-time, helping to take care of my terminally ill MIL, but had been applying to other architectural firms since she passed, on the morning of August 2nd.
I am sometimes still awakened by an early morning dream, in a slight panic, because of dreaming I’m late for work…old habits (not actually being late, but dreaming about it 😉) die hard…!!!!! 🤣
The problem I was running into was that I don’t have an architectural degree, or license. And, frankly, I’m no spring chicken, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it, as well.
I had a vocational drafting class for 3 hours every morning (there was also a 3-hour afternoon class), my junior and senior years of high school.
I was hired by a firm, 3 months before I graduated from high school, to ink brochures for a local builder, in the evenings.
After I graduated, they asked me to stay on full-time.
I actually interviewed at the University of Texas School of Architecture at one point back then, but the 2 partners in that first firm (both registered architects - one educated at UT, the other at OU)
suggested that I not worry about it, as I was already producing work for them that was beyond their 4th year of architecture school…!!!!! 😅
I could have been grandfathered into the ability to get my license years ago, based on my experience, but we were busy raising our kids at the time, and I never needed it with any of the architectural jobs I’ve ever had before.
I never had to fill out an application, provide a resume, etc., as everyone I ever worked for already knew me, so, as a result, I always got good offers…and counter offers…!!! 😉

Anyway, I’m rambling, but I thought it might be appropriate to provide a bit of background/context.

And, again, thank you…!!! 🙂

Sorry, but my #74,489 post got me goin’ down memory lane, for some reason, photo-wise…

Me on my tricycle, in San Antonio, when I was about 2 years old, in 1964…!!!!! 🤣

Myself and my 2 younger bros in our Little League Baseball uniforms, in No Cal back in the mid 70’s…sorry, @JenniferS …no Blue Jays…!!! 😉

IMG_0636.jpeg

A picture of me with Craig T. Nelson (the dad from the first 2 “Poltergeist” movies, the star of the TV series “Coach”, etc.) that Carolyn took back when we were dating, from the Legends of Golf tournament here in Austin back in 1986…!!! 🙂

IMG_1700.jpeg

Megan and I at her first Daddy/Daughter Dance as a Brownie, back in the mid 90’s…!!!!! 😍😊

And, the last one is of us from a Sea World San Antonio trip at the end of the day, from the late 90’s…ohhhhh, to be that thin again…!!!!! 😅

IMG_2278.jpeg

My apologies, but recent events have made me a bit sappy, and the holidays are here, as well, so there’s that…!!! 😉
Anyway, thanks for indulging me…!!! 🙂

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Today is a day where I just found out that Mrs Field's actually had physical store locations. And still do apparently.

My Mom makes the cookies all the time mostly for Christmas.
I’m from a foreign country and even I knew that. 😂

IMO, they’re pretty average. I’ll take an Auntie Anne’s cinnamon sugar pretzel over a Mrs. Field’s any day.
