They were outlawed years ago, but they were quite prevalent back in the day. There was sometimes one "free" stall too, but since more people would use that it was always pretty skeevey.
Were they really outlawed? I know they disappeared but never knew why.

According to Wikipedia:

In the 1970s, pay toilets came under attack in the United States, from feminists as well as the plumbing industry. California legislator March Fong Eu argued that they discriminated against women because men could use urinals for free whereas women always had to pay a dime for a toilet stall in places where payment was mandatory.[6] The American Restroom Association was a proponent of an amendment to the National Model Building Code to allow pay toilets only in addition to free toilets.[7] A campaign by the Committee to End Pay Toilets In America (CEPTIA) resulted in laws prohibiting pay toilets in cities and states. In 1973, Chicago became the first American city to enact a ban, at a time when, according to the Wall Street Journal, there were at least 50,000 units in America,[8] mostly made by the Nik-O-Lok Company.[9] CEPTIA was successful over the next few years in obtaining bans in New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, California, Florida and Ohio.[9] Lobbying was successful in other states as well, and by decade's end, pay toilets were greatly reduced in America. However, they are still in use and produced by the Nik-O-Lok company as many of these laws have since been repealed.

One chocolate bar to kids appearing to be 10 and older - two, to the little ones, or the really good costumes, or the really polite kids.

In the last few years I noticed that kids around here don't actually say "trick or treat" to get the candy. They just stand there with their bags open most of the time.

Actually we had mostly very polite kids this year . There were lots of parents out which probably helped, but even the older kids we had were very polite.

Oh, they're still mostly polite here, too. I mean, they aren't just grabbing the candy. Just thought it was strange they weren't saying the expected phrase to get the candy. I remember being so eager to shout it out when the door opened!

Don't you hate that? One of the adverse effects of binge watching for me.
I'm binge reading a new mystery author I recently discovered. I promised myself I wouldn't. In the past three weeks, I have read 8 of her books, and just picked up another 4 from the library today.

I'd love if they wrote out Piper and made Taystee and her group the main characters.
I found season 3 the most boring plots of the three. The Piper/Alex back and forth is getting old, and Piper really has become a boring character. Each season I feel she's just gotten more and more bland. I think they need to introduce new characters in season 4, which is easy to do the way they ended season 3. My favorite character is probably Red, but because of the storylines her role got pretty boring in season 3 as well.
