I'm debating whether to pull an April Fool's joke on my class. I think I've only ever taught during one or two April 1sts before, due to spring breaks, weekends, etc. I'm thinking about holding a "flood drill". I found a script where they have to take off their shoes/socks, stand on the chairs, sit on their chairs with their feet on their tables, then eventually practice laying on their stomachs and swimming. But my students were already talking about April Fool's Day today, so I'm not sure if they'll buy it or not.

I say go for it, but maybe towards the end of the day.

I feel like it's been April Fool's everyday lately

Hello Friends. I’ve been MIA a few days, but look forward to catching up tomorrow.

We moved Thursday, Friday … worked Saturday even though there was round one of an ice storm … went into work on Sunday after round two of the ice storm, just to prove there was no power … left work and went around the corner to
the mostly empty apartment to grab the last of our things, but couldn’t accomplish much (because there was no power and the elevator wasn’t working, and 5 trips up and down to the 5th floor nearly killed me) … and had the good fortune to be one of only two cars (out of 80 or so) to be damaged by falling limbs.

This is Mike’s car somewhere under there. We will go check it out tomorrow, as we were advised to wait until the ice melted, as we risked bringing down more overburdened limbs and branches.

Some more damage from the apartment. This is the other car that was damaged. His side view mirror was knocked off.

Proof that we went to the office, so Mike can get paid. Listen, I told you the power was out, you don’t believe me … you pay me for making me go in.

And here’s the kicker. Our power at the new place went out Saturday night at 10pm. No hydro, no heat, no hot water, no internet, nada. Not even LTE was working.

It is now 1am on Tuesday, and we still have none of the above, except LTE.

It’s cold - approx 55° in the house … currently 0°C (32°F) outside. We are under many, many blankets. It’s exhausting trying to stay warm. Spenser has had enough, he’s leaving in the morning. Says he’s not coming back, that this is a sign from the universe that he never should have moved with us. (That boy would never last in Survivor. He’d self-evict the first night he got too cold.)

Hydro was supposed to be back on by 9pm on Monday, but clearly that didn’t happen, so if it’s not back by the morning, Mike is going back to house in Brantford and picking up the generator, and the propane tanks.

Power is back on in Lindsay, so yay, I get to go to work. /s

I haven’t showered in gosh only knows how many days, but at least I’ll be warm there, and can make coffee.

I’ve turned the bathroom light on, so if the hydro does come back on during the night, it will wake me. It would be nice if April Fools was good for a change.

Latest update from Hydro One regarding restoration of power … “reassessing”, whatever that means.

Wow, Jennifer, that's a LOT of grief!! Ice storms are no one's friend. I hope everything improves today for all involved.

Nope, no hydro. Boo.

Operation Retrieve Generator From Home is going into effect.

So much food purchased during a Thursday Costco run is headed for the trash. Sad.
Our power company will reimburse food losses due to power outages if you have the receipt(s), you may want to check if yours does

Thank you all for the feedback! Like I said, we aren't super adventurous eaters, and we're not food snobs in any way. We enjoy our low-class meals.
Yeah, judging by your previous reports, you didn't strike me as a very adventurous eater. I will say, I'm not a very adventurous eater either, but I do like Sanaa....I HAVE become more adventurous than I used to be. I used to be strictly a chicken nugget or pizza girl back in the day, but I eat a lot more variety now. Sanaa has steak, which is usually a pretty safe option, at least for me, but I get the Butter Chicken there. I'm not brave enough to try most of the sides, though. But when there are more familiar options available, I'd say go with what seems safest for you. The three you listed are all perfectly fine, and honestly, most restaurants there can be hit or miss depending on the day. Our server at Sanaa was terrible. We were seated, we waited forever for him to come take our order and then we never saw him again. There were runners who brought our food, I finally had to flag down a different server and ask if she could FIND our server so I could get refill on my drink and she ended up bringing it herself....the only thing he did was take our order and bring us our check. I waited for the server from the table next to us who had brought my drink and I tipped her. I did TIP our server, but I did the minimum amount, which I almost never tip so poorly. But the server for the table next to us was fantastic. And we had a fantastic meal at Boma....LOVED their butternut squash soup. But someone else said they didn't enjoy their meal at all and their service was terrible, where ours had been fantastic. It really just depends on the day. I'm sure you'll find something at whichever place you decide on. I usually go by my plans...if I'm going to be in MK that day, I choose a restaurant either in MK or at one of the delux resorts with boat or monorail service to MK. But that's just me. We don't usually park hop much. Go with whatever works best for your plans and has the menu that sounds most appealing. At the end of the day, your experience is going to be different than anyone else's anyway....maybe in a good way, maybe in a bad way. You just can't predict it, so go with whatever sounds best to you.

I'm glad you are safe. They mentioned on our news yesterday that there had been an ice storm there and that thousands of people were without electricity, so I was worried about you, but I'm glad you are ok. Not that it is FUN, but hopefully everything melts soon and you can get everything moving again.
