Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

My fan lasted all night. I kept it at power setting 2 vs 3 or 4.

Unfortunately, I forgot to shut off my bedside table lamp before everything went dark at 11:08 pm, so when the hydro came back on at 8:00, I was jolted wide awake by the blinding light.

Only a few incidents of break-ins that I could see on FB. Not very Purge-like after all, thankfully.

Tonight my Christmas tree goes up! We had company last night, otherwise I would have done it then.

(Thanksgiving, such as it was, is over; I’m completely ambivalent about Hallowe’en; and sorry, I don’t believe veterans are disrespected by my little tree going up before November 11th. So there you have it. Up it goes.)

I would like to share some photos of a place in Schwenksville PA that SOME of you MIGHT consider going to since some of you are within a 2 hours or less drive from there. It took my wife and myself 1 hour and 45 minutes in travel time. Anyway, it is called "Ott's Exotic Plants" 861 Gravel Pike ( zip code 19473)20241019_141939.jpg20241019_142324.jpg20241019_142840.jpg20241019_143809.jpg

My Christmas decorations will probably go up either the 9th or 16th.

Welcome to the tree up brigade. Ours has been up 3 weeks now. Lights are on it and we are slowly adding decorations as the time goes by .

Some things, like the tree skirt weren’t in the box, but my tree is up. Needs some tweaking of branches and repositioning of a couple of balls, and a few more ornaments.

It’s nothing like my usual masterpiece at home, but it’s shiny and sparkly, and apparently it’s good for your mood and increases dopamine. (Medical fact. Look it up.)

Sooo . . . it's already been up for 3 weeks, and you mentioned you were adding more decorations before Christmas. How many decorations can you add in 2 months?! (I'm afraid that the tree will tip over with all that extra weight, by the time Christmas Day rolls around!) ;)

(P.S.: I love the two cuddlies sitting at the bottom of the tree. ❤️💚 )

What is that, another fabricated problem surfacing? As a veteran I can easily say that we veteran's don't give a tinker damn about when people put up their Christmas trees or put out their shamash for Hanukkah or whatever one's holiday entails. None of that is connected in anyway to Memorial Day and until someone falsely makes a claim that we care, it isn't even thought about. Memorial Day is not for the Veteran that can possible be offended, it is to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We now tend to use it for all family and loved ones that have passed and that is OK as well. All people are important and worthy of being remembered at least once a year.

Thank you.

You guys have your “Treats, Turkey, Tree” rule. We have “Turkey, Treats, Poppy, Tree” rule … at least according to some. I get grief every year that it is offensive to put up my tree before the 11th.

My father in law who was a WWII vet had zero issues with it. Said it was a nonsense made-up rule by non veterans deciding that veterans SHOULD feel disrespected. One has nothing to do with the other.

It's hard to feel the Christmas spirit right now, when it's going to be near 80 degrees today. We had one week of fall before going right back into summer. And I love this weather, but this time of year it brings out all the flies, Asian beetles, and boxelder bugs.

I sweep up 20+ dead flies and Asian beetles twice a day at work. The ones that aren’t quite dead get the chancla treatment and join their expired friends in the dust pan.

I was at a friend's house after school on Friday, and she was commenting how bad they were in her place. I've had lots of flies in my classroom, to the point where one was landing on my Smart Board all day Thursday and clicking everything. It made teaching really annoying.

I had never heard of the last two and had to look them up. The first one was what I always knew as "Lady Bugs" and the second I never heard of by any name. I don't recall ever seeing any of them. Flies and Lady Bugs I have seen in abundance. I don't know what the situation is around here. Since moving here I have not seen but about 10 flies, not a single mosquito, but a lot of black flies. I haven't seen any of what we called Deer Flies around here. That is the only bug that I have to try and avoid. If I get bitten on the face, my eyes will swell closed. Other people have told me that they get bombarded by mosquito's in the summer. I guess they don't have a taste for old blood.

Asian beetles are faux ladybugs. They are a less bright red … more orange. They are an invasive species, and not at all helpful like the ladybug, and the little buggers bite. I got bit today on the top of my hand.

OK, please keep them in Cananada or near the border with the US. Not counting politicians we have enough strange and invasive things down here. I've seen so many different bugs down here that I never saw when I lived up north. Some are quite scary looking when first spotted. I spent many hours when I first moved googling different ones so I would know to either not to be concerned or to run away screaming in terror.
