I just saw there was an earthquake in the northeast. Did anyone feel it? Hopefully everyone is okay and there's not much damage.
4.8 in NJ. Epicenter's area was about 1 hours 15 minutes northwest-ish from me.
I didn't even know until my wife texted me from her workplace.
I am home and she is at work. She is working to my north so she felt it.
No damage or problem. She described what she felt...her words on the text: "Yes, it was a big bump"

Family in Northern NJ advised that they felt. It. Felt like house shaking for a few seconds. 911 maxed out with callers calling in after earthquake.

Anyone planning on viewing the eclipse on Monday?

Where I live is in the path of totality. Not for long though - less than half the time of Niagara Falls.

Almost a million people are expected to descend upon Niagara Falls. That’s a big no thank you!

I expect the path here will be somewhat similar, albeit with a shorter period of complete coverage.

Spenser, Daisy, and I will be remaining inside for the whole of it. The fear of blindness they pounded into us in 1979 stuck; and there is zero chance I will trust my vision to flimsy, mass produced, cheaply made “protective lenses”.

I’ll watch it on tv, thanks. Over-reactive? Probably.

1 It's going to be cloudy here
2 It's going to be nippy here
3 The cheap glasses thing
I have notifications to watch from the safety of my warm house
Safety of my house unless it starts shaking lol
Still a bit sad we sort of heard it and didn't really feel it

I'm up in the air. It depends what the rest of our staff is doing. We have a professional development day without kids on Monday. Part of the eclipse is during meetings, but part is during work time. I did buy the glasses, just in case.

I should also add, I'm not in the path of totality. We're supposed to be at about 87%

We’re in the path of totality, but a million people are expected to pour into town, so barring a substation emergency, I’m planning to work from home. They passed out the glasses at work, but I don’t know if I’ll bother to go outside or not….

In a way I'm not too sad that it will be cloudy and rainy, then I don't have to worry about taking my students out to see it. I don't have to worry that they will all wear their glasses or be weirdos and take them off to look at the sun. If this was happening on a weekend or during the summer I would be totally bummed that it was going to be cloudy.

The stores in my area ran out of those funky eyeglasses, last week. I'll probably do what you're doing -- watching the afternoon eclipse TV specials (a ton of TV stations are doing this).
