I haven’t been outside in days. I see no reason to reverse that trend until it warms up.
I have to get some groceries at some point over the weekend. Dh has a 3 day weekend so he'll preheat the car and play pack animal. I just have to decide if I want to head out in a little bit of snow or below 0F Windchill close to 0F actual temperature. Our supermarket has a drop spot right by the door:inlove:

Hope the family are all feeling better
Thank you. Everyone seems fine. My headache broke overnight. Thank you, Lord. I used one of those microwaveable cereal bags multiple times last night, and that helped my neck.

I am eating my first meal (not called Saltines) as I type.

I also had my first coffee. It was fine. I made a second, but didn’t drink it.

The corner has been turned, and I reject all other viruses and bugs for a while. My family has had its fill!

I may have asked this before, but if I have, I've forgotten the answer. Do you plug your cars in at night in Vermont? I know they don't have tank heaters in the Southern states, because a friend of mine from college was from Arizona and we were walking across campus one day and he suddenly dove under some cars to take pictures of the cords. He said without pictures, no one back home would believe we actually have cords to plug our cars in at night when it's cold so our cars will start. It had never occured to me that not all cars were made with those because we grew up plugging our cars in. But I just assumed it was standard in any of the states where it could get below freezing. Did you not have that? Is it a Northwest US thing?
We used to, but it is totally unnecessary with todays newer cars because the tolerances are so tight that a starting problem is usually because of a weak battery and not the engine. Also the oil is a lot thinner than it once was so it doesn't put as much of a strain on the moving parts. Old cars might still be needing it but I haven't seen it for quite a while. I used two different types back in the day. One was a "block heater" which put a heating element in the engine block and warmed up the engine enough to make it start easier. The second was a small water circulating heater the spliced into the water lines on the car and kept the water temperature warmer than the outside air. Again though it has been a number of years since that was really required generally. So the answer is Some Do and Some Don't, but it isn't as much a necessary thing that it once was. I suspect that these days it is much more needed in the upper mid-west now than in New England.

BTW, cars are not manufactured with those heat units.** Those are an after market item that is added to the car by the owners, not available as a car option.

**Except diesels and those are called "Pre-heaters and they are active for a very brief time and operated with the vehicle battery and not plugged into an AC outlet.

Winter, now with 2 possible ice storms next week 1705603220876.png
On a happier note I'm going to the store that has a small selection of vegan feta cheese tomorrow. I see a couple of Greek salads with tomatoes in my life next week

Mostly cloudy skies to begin Thursday, then becoming overcast fairly quickly as the next system approaches, with highs remaining just above freezing. Snow showers move in very late Thursday night in the pre-dawn hours, with a cold low in the middle 20s. Cloudy with periods of snow on Friday expected. For the latest information on this system visit the Weather Alerts page here: https://epawaweather.com/weather-alerts/.

Cold and blustery over the weekend following this system, but both weekend days do look dry. A slight moderation to just above freezing is possible finally on Monday, then even more so on Tuesday as clouds increase ahead of the next system. A few rain showers will be possible Wednesday, but remaining mild.

We got some very bad news this morning. Mike’s brother Pat (best man at our wedding) passed away this morning … in a plane en route to Hawaii, about 90 minutes short of the airport.

They’re assuming heart attack. Medical coroner only has to conduct an external examination of the body; no autopsy.

There were four different medical personnel among the passengers. He was zapped 30 times, given 4 shots of adrenaline, oxygen, IV … about 90 minutes from the airport.

His wife figures he was gone before they even got him into the aisle to work on him.

Must have been terrifying for her.

NOTHING on FB. Ruth is still tracking down her side. Mike’s siblings all know.
