I finally put the furnace on in the wee hours of the morning. Thatā€™s possibly the latest date ever. It went down to 29Ā° overnight, so I figured it was time.

No flurries expected here tonight, but Toronto might see some. Pass.
I haven't turned my heat on yet. But being in an apartment is different... I get to freeload off the heat from the apartments around me.

Hoping not to use the heating again this winter.
Being a middle apartment means the heat comes through from both sides.

That's the same for me. The east side of my apartment is the only part that faces the outside weather. When my AC quit last summer it was in the 90's outside for the three days it was not working and the temperature inside never got above 74F. Right now the outside is 54F and the east wall is still testing at 70F. It has to get what we would call very cold (in the 20'sF) for a few days before the heat pump has to work a little harder. What a wonderful change from the years of cold, snow, ice and huge heating costs of the northeast and we were like a tropical location compared to the central north of the country. (your area of the world) I was just barely able to tolerate it in Vermont. They would have had to put me away in a padded room if I lived where you do. Must be all that cheese that keeps you functioning. ;)

It's after 7pm and I've only had three "Trick or Treaters".
My first doorbell ring was just one boy.
The second doorbell ring was the two sisters who live across the street.
I am guessing that will be it.
My theory for the incredibly small turnout is that the kids and or parents feel "it's cold out!"
They'd possibly feel that way because we've had such a mild Autumn. So because of the mild NJ autumn everyone here thinks they live in South Carolina šŸ™„
Recently NJ has been in the 70s.
Now as I post it is 49F.
In January we'll be grateful for a high of 49F...but it's all relative.

I've had enough that we already went through the 90-piece bag of candy and opened the 100-piece bag.

I haven't had many littles, though. Mostly middle school and what seems to be high schoolers. And my hubby's been home all day, so it's not like we missed the "right after school" crowd.

I just wish I didn't have to keep getting up from my dinner to answer the door. I don't usually get home from work til after 6, so we eat late.

I quoted your post and was about to compose my response when my doorbell rang. You brought me good luck.
I don't need all this candy and I've already eaten dinner.
So it's good that I got a third chance to open the door.
Just one boy. I gave him four different types of candy.

I will look forward to seeing your thoughts on my post when demand dies down at your door. šŸ˜

The insurance guy called me back. At first he said it wasn't totaled, so he was just going to write a check to the collision center to repair it. I asked if he could mail the check to me instead, so I could use it toward a down payment on a new car. At first he sounded like that was a bother, but then he said it was fine. He said he was waiting for some minor tweaks from the collision center, but hoped to have the check mailed out today yet.

So hopefully tomorrow I can go up and get the Terrain.

It's currently 38 degrees here -- love this cooler weather. Anyway, hubs has been handing out candy to the trick or treaters since 6 PM, and there have been (so far) about 45 kids. Most kids go home by 8 PM, so there may be more coming in the next half hour.
