I always knew Ireland did it the way you explained.They would write 5/10/23 and say it as "the fifth of October"
When my dad immigrated to the US many many years ago, he filled in his date of birth as 6/1/32, as he would've done in Ireland. After working for several years, he realized there was a problem and had to do quite a bit of bureaucratics to change it from June 1 to his actual.birthdate of January 6.
Yet....I also always assumed Canada was the same as the US.
Since they are so geographically close to us I wrongly assumed they were the same.
