Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

It was snow, hours of freezing rain, more snow, then freezing drizzle. Walking out to my car last night, I was stepping on snow numerous inches deep and there was no trace of my footprints.

Shovels aren’t made like they used to be. Now they’re all cheap plastic and “ergonomic” handles.

His back will be sore for days. Just muscle strain I’m sure. He’ll be fully recovered just in time for Monday’s next anticipated winter wallop.
Oh goody....that sounds....fun.

We went out for dinner tonight for the end of the vacation...well, 3 of us did. A is still really sick and wanted nothing to eat so we took the opportunity to go to a restaurant he won't eat at. It's a tapas place, so you order 2 dishes per person per round, unlimited rounds.

Spicy steak bites. This is one of our go-to that at least E and I order every time. My husband didn't order this this time. There were some new things on the menu to try, and some of our other favorites were gone. :(

Corn on the cobb with butter. Another one of our go-to items for E and me.

Salmon on toast with a lemon-cream sauce. One of my husbands, that E and I won't touch.

Moorish pork tenderloin in a Caribbean sauce. I ordered this to share with E, but both of us hated it, and my husband thought it was delicious.

My husband's Carpaccio

My husband's shrimp, I think in Garlic oil? They also have one with a spicy garlic-cream sauce, but this doesn't look creamy.

Chicken breast in a parmesean sauce with crumbled bacon. This was the other one E and I ordered to share. She really liked it, and I thought it was ok. She ate most of it.

Actually, I think this is the Salmon with lemon-cream sauce, but then I don't know what the other one was....I swear it was salmon on toast, but I can't find it on the menu. Oh....yeah, my husband says the other one was smoked salmon on toast with dill sauce. He loves his salmon and shrimp things.

My mushrooms in garlic butter They were pretty bland. I had to add salt.

This one we all ordered, and I ordered it twice. We tried to order it again, but it was gone.

Oven-baked Camembert with honey and walnuts. It doesn't say that it comes with freshly-baked bread, but OMG was it good. That's definitely a new favorite. This was one of the new menu items, along with the pork in the Caribbean sauce. We are going to try to make this one at home!

My husband's fried potatos with a spicy sauce.

My spareribs that I shared because it was a huge portion. You always used to get only 2 or 3 ribs, but they gave me 5, so we all shared them. It's something we usually each order anyway, but they changed it slightly and they weren't as good. Still fine, but not a must-do anymore.

We all ordered Crema Catalana for Dessert.

There was one disappointment, and that was that one of the things I ordered never made it to the table. The rule is that you can't order the next round until you have the current round, but things get delivered separately, not all at the same time. So we wait until we have most of the current round and then put in our next order. You used to order with little cards, but now you do it on your phone, using a QR code. It's a lot faster, because you don't have to wait for a server to come pick up your card and put in the order. It's automatic. But it's still not a place you go if you don't have a few hours. It takes quite a while. But we had already gotten 2 rounds and I was still waiting for my bruschetta with fried chorizo, goat cheese, and sweet onion compote. Finally I asked a server, and she went to check on it and came back and said they were out. When we paid, I let the guy know that that's something they probably should have come to our table to ask what else I would like in place of the item they didn't have. Especially if you expect people to wait to order until they have their current round. If we hadn't gone ahead and ordered the next round, we'd have been sitting there for half an hour waiting on that one dish, not knowing that they didn't have it. And then we'd have still had to wait until our next round was cooked. When the camembert ran out, it disappeared from the menu on my phone. So they probably ran out of the bruschetta just after I ordered it, and that happens, no biggie, but someone should have come let us know and asked what we wanted instead. I'm still sad that they took a couple of my favorites off the menu. For a while they had a flambini (kind of like a flatbread pizza) with seasoned ground meat and a aoli sauce. It was SOOOO good. Then they got rid of that, and they added a bruschetta with oven-baked brie and honey and zucchini. I would order several rounds of that....it was my absolute favorite. And now it's gone.

I didn't take pictures of my drinks! I forgot. I had a watermelon fizz, which is vodka, watermelon liqueur, lime juice, and sprite. It was really watery, and not as good as usual. So I ordered a Dutch Tropical, which was gin, passionfruit liqueur (I don't like passion fruit, but figured it would be overpowered by the other things), lime juice, sugar syrup, and amaretto. It was good, but could have used just a touch more amaretto. But I didn't taste the passion fruit so that's good.

Years ago, they had Sans Sangria, which was a virgin sangria made with grape juice, a sangria flavor syrup, 7up or sprite, and some slices of fresh lime and lemon. E and I would always order that. It was our favorite. They don't have that anymore, and I tried real sangria once and didn't like it. They also had a virgin cocktail that was orange juice, watermelon flavor syrup, vanilla syrup,7up, and and a slice of lime. I loved that one, too, but E didn't like it. But we have started making those two at home, so we don't need them at the restaurant.

There were a couple other things we ordered that I didn't take pictures of. My daughter's breaded chicken wings, some onion rings (fake onion rings...they chop onions, mix it in batter, and shape them into rings and fry them. Not nearly as good as real onion rings) and some pork with a sage sauce and ham, which my husband said was just ok....a bit bland. And his ham with honeymustard sauce.

@Songbird76 - Your dinner looked fantastic. Even with the few misses, I was practically licking my phone screen. Thank you so much for sharing.

Hope your son feels better soon. (Did he get COVID? Is that why he’s under the weather?)
You're welcome. It was great, even with the few things they don't have anymore. Sometimes they get something new and it turns out to be so good. Like the baked camembert. That was fantastic.

No, he got a throat infection. And I don't think I posted it in here, but back in January, he had surgery in his mouth to release a tooth that was stuck in the roof of his mouth and wouldn't come down. He's autistic, and when things feel or taste different than usual, he kind of gets a panic response. Long story short, he forgot how to swallow and had to be in the hospital for a little over a week so he could get fluids by IV. It took about 2 weeks before he could finally eat and drink. He only got out of the hospital less than a month ago, and now he has this throat infection, which has thrown him back into having a hard time swallowing. Not quite as bad as the first time. He CAN swallow, but he can't drink until after he eats something to remind him how to swallow....he can actually feel solid food, but not the fluids, so he has to eat something first, then he can drink. But he's got a bunch of slime in his throat from the infection, which makes his mouth taste bad, which makes FOOD taste bad. So he's barely eating anything and we can't get him to take his antibiotics. He can't swallow pills and he got these capsules you break open and mix with food, but he says they are really nasty and everything tastes bad already. We tried mixing it with plain sugar, with a drink, nothing works. He won't take it. He's miserable. So we promised him we'd do something special with him when he feels better and we went to the restaurant where he won't eat so that he wasn't missing out, since he wouldn't eat anyway.

That’s quite an ordeal he’s going through. 🙁

I had to take tb meds for 20+ months when I was a kid, and my mom used to have to crush them up and mix with jam. When I couldn’t even tolerate the sight of jam, we switched to honey. Plugging my nose helped … a bit.

Note - I didn’t even have the tb, my 4 year old brother and grandpa did, but I was on meds longer than anyone; Mark and Dida included.

Also, I dreamed last night that Mike and I went to that restaurant. In my dream, it was called something with 6 letters, 3 syllables, starting with UV, ending in I. Like “UVALDI”, but not quite.

Anyways, we didn’t take the kids because we didn’t want to share. Also the restaurant was located in Ottawa … although my brain might have inserted that last bit of info after I learned this morning that Monty has passed.

It snowed. It’s still snowing.

14 cm has fallen … just under 6”.
And just for giggles, they threw in a freezing rain warning.

If you are going to have freezing rain it is better when there is a fresh coating of snow. It is less of a problem when it incorporates with the snow as far as driving is concerned. I remember as a kid, when there would be this at least one inch thick (you do the conversion) of solid "snow" in the yard and a sled (with metal runners) could stay on top of the snow and slid over it. The only part of winter I ever liked. Of course, as a kid, I never had to drive in it, but later when I got old enough I found that freezing rain on top of snow was fine, but not the freezing rain first, that was deadly.
