Misc. thoughts:
1) My daughter goes back to college in Virginia soon. We move her into her dorm on Fri. 8/20
2) We are going down in two cars because for the first time, she'll have her own car on campus.
3) Planning for my wife and I to give our DD some last hugs on Sunday after brunch and then we continue to N.C for hiking.
4) Since my school didn't let out last year until June 18th, teachers do not have to report for our 1st day staff meeting until 9/1/21

Those are my misc. life related things.
How about any of you guys???

Going back for inservice on 8/23. I’m so not ready. The summer has been too much fun and I’ve enjoyed it. I wish I was retired but that is too far away for me.

Really happy that you've had a great summer. If anyone deserves a wonderful break, it's all the wonderful teachers who dealt with so many stressful challenges last year. You've earned this vacation!

About 2 weeks ago our principal sent out an email wanting us to come in for the day (10-3) and help with planning for the next year. He offered lunch no pay for coming in. I might have thought about it if I would have gotten paid but like many of the teachers I work with we all said "sorry, not available" to him but to each other we said/texted "no way are we giving up a precious summer vacation day for no pay!". I think 4-5 teachers still went in though.

Cut to me going in for an unpaid Leadership Team meeting this morning. We weren't even offered lunch. 😂

But I'm in the process of setting up my room anyway, so I'll be at school already. Our new principal seems really good, so I'm happy to help after these past two years of virtually having no leadership in our building.

Although I understand and in many ways feel the same, it came to me while reading it that this is how our country is evolving. It is something that we have been experiencing in the last several years. Because we don't see anything that is in it for us, we allow a few people to actually rule what happens. We don't get involved and very few are willing to take advantage and have a say, the rest of us have to deal with their policies and goals instead of our own. I worked for a school district and found that extra needed gathering sometimes didn't happen because of public budget restrictions. That's not the schools fault, that is the fault of your neighbors who see no future in supporting education.

Actually many of us who declined are on leadership teams at the school. I think if he had asked for an hour or two instead of almost a whole day without pay many of us would have said yes. I don't think it is unreasonable for us to be compensated for our time. It could have been paid through a professional development grant that our district got thousands of dollars for at the end of last school year. He could even offered a Zoom option for some of the teachers that also couldn't come in because of child care options, some teachers would have had to pay for child care for that unpaid time, so they would have been paying to work for free.

I'm not for a second saying that you shouldn't be paid for your time, I'm just saying that knowing how school districts work and how every year budgets are cut, there just might not be any money for that, so unless they have a printing press someplace not attending gives power to others. If they do have money available and do not want to use it than they should be forced to pay it. From what I gathered from what you said they went or are going ahead with the plans regardless of who does or doesn't attend. I'm not saying that anyone has done anything wrong by either going in or not going in, I'm just saying what the results of either action are.

We never got to the point where we we permitted to ditch ours. I hear ya. It stinks.

I held an open house for a builder today, and people had to log in with a QR code, answer the questionnaire, and provide all their contact tracing info before my admin would even let them in.
Does this mean that a whole group of houses has been built and ready for sale? Or, does it mean that just one (sample) home has been built -- to entice future buyers? I know that a few times a year, you sell a new group of homes, and was just wondering if you're back to work full-time now. (Also, does the QR code request their proof of vaccination status?)

I went to one at the end of July. It was glorious!
Jungle Cruise was jolly good fun. Saw it at the theatre late Thursday night; bought it on Disney+ maybe 12 hours later.
It was really fun! It's funny here, because you can tell most people speak English, but don't get jokes or anything because we were the only people laughing at some of the jokes. You could also tell that we were probably the only people in the theater who are familiar with the actual Jungle Cruise ride at Disney. I'm betting that no one else knew that those puns are a part of the attraction, even they even understood them.
