A Photo / Trip Report Of Shark Week Proportions
Monday: July 6th, 2015

To honor this most sacred of weeks, I figured it was only fitting to pay homage to these magnificent creatures in person. So to mark the first full day of Shark Week 2015, I ventured forth to Ripley's Aquarium Of The Smokies, in beautiful downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Let the shark-infested trip report commence!

Arrived at the aquarium around 2:30pm. Crowds were moderate, with still a good bit of people enjoying their nice, July 4th holiday week.

The weather outside was sunny, few clouds, and hot. But the weather inside was calling for a 100% chance of shark.

While the aquarium has a wide array of aquatic wildlife to enjoy, from stingrays to eels, jellies to penguins...today's mission was one thing, and one thing only: Sharks. So what better place to start than overlooking Shark Lagoon?

The sharks didn't seem to comprehend how famous they are this week. Or perhaps they did. Either way...here are some:

And while this photo report is supposed to revolve around our esteemed celebrities of Shark Week, I couldn't help but get a pic of this fellow as he emerged for a breath of air. Maybe he was coming up to ask when there would ever be a Sea Turtle Week.

Shark Lagoon may look nice from above, but is even more amazing from below, as it is home to a large, underwater tunnel with a moving walkway; completely submerging guests with sharky goodness.

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion to this Shark Week photo report from the Smokies! Will we survive the underwater tunnel? Yes we will. Will there be more sharks? Obviously, yes. Did we find Bob Saget? No we didn't.
All of these suspenseful, already-answered questions will be revealed in Part II.

I can't wait to see these tomorrow on a device other than my phone.

Is the "Ripley's" the same as the Ripley's Believe it or Not people? Lettering looks the same.
