Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Canada is 67th on the list; y’all are 69th - not really that big a difference given the much larger percentage of people here who are recent immigrants.

As someone who HATES smoking, lost two parents to smoking related illnesses - I say good luck with that.

35’ish days notice is a ridiculous amount of advance warning to announce what is a ginormous change in policy for a large number of people.

People will just get sneaky and smoke wherever they want. I imagine that restrooms will be prime locations for those who can’t/won’t follow the rules. So easy to flush the evidence and there are no cameras there.

As a middle aged woman who has had two children, I can choose to skirt around designated smoking areas whereas I cannot skip visiting the washrooms. a) I pee A LOT. b) That’s where I do half of my live trip updates.
I'm not saying it's a good solution, but it doesn't bother me. I say try it, and if it doesn't work and enough people break the rules and make it tough to enforce, then try something else. It's not like they can't ever go back.

As somebody who doesn't smoke, it bothers me zero percent.
I don't smoke anymore, it's been years. But, I still remember how consuming that addiction can be. I know for a fact that if they didn't have a smoking area in WDW, I never would have gone to WDW. I know that doesn't bother anyone, but, I still feel for those that still have that habit. I really hope that Disney advertises that before they get people there that are not only trying to overcome the heat, but, also the strength of that empty gut feeling that comes with having to abstain both voluntarily and especially non-voluntarily. If you think you have seen angry people before, just wait. If the CM's don't step up and enforce it (I have no reason to think they will since there is rule against that now and for some reason the CM's accidentally, I'm sure, always happen to be facing the opposite direction) smoking will no longer be contained in specific areas, it will be back to happening everywhere. That should be a bigger concern for those that feel that they need to avoid it. I will be amazed if there are no big problems resulting from it. I might be wrong. I hope I am wrong, but, I remember how militant I was when I was a smoker and it is kind of a standard attitude that comes with the social rejection. If one thinks that they have witnessed angry, frustrated parents taking out their anger on the kids, just wait. I'm not saying that behavior is the way people should be, but, I do know the aching need to have that smoke and how badly it affects the smoker and the people around them. It isn't pretty.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Sadly, I agree with everything you just said.
30+ days in not enough notice either.

There must have been an issue big enough for Disney to make this policy change. Honestly, I don't recall when designated smoking areas in the parks affected me, other than when I stumbled across one while taking a shortcut to Fantasyland from Tomorrowland. So IMO it wasn't really a problem that needed solving, but Disney obviously has thought otherwise. If not, then they wouldn't have alienated a group this size from coming and spending money on their property.

Has there been any push back from the public about smoking in the parks that would have led to this?

I have decided I want Ian McShane as the new narrator of SSE. I love me some Lovejoy.

That is all.
No clue who that is. Even after looking him up.

Hot take: I like Judy Dench as the narrator. The script is a little wonky at times, but I like her voice.

Absolutely! I don't smoke, but know a number of people who do. It's dumb for WDW to willy nilly just eliminate the smoking areas. Nicotine is a drug. What smoker is going to last all day in the MK for example, without a puff?!

Good lord, can't they just have 2 locations (one somewhere near the front of the park, and one somewhere at the rear. And instead of it being an outdoor location, have it in a discreet (small) building where the smokers could all smoke--kinda like when the airlines had smoking rooms in the terminals, near the gates -- in glass enclosed rooms.

Really, this is a poorly thought-out policy, and it will add to the tension of families who have 1 or more smokers in the group.
