Most young children these days play video games on tablets, rather than a console with a controller. Almost all of my kids have tablets. Very few have consoles. And yes, that is huge for fine motor skills. Instead of playing with toys and doing arts and crafts, so many parents just give their young children a phone or tablet to keep them entertained. Early childhood is such a crucial time to develop these skills. There are places for phones and tablets for children, but it's often used as the frequent way to not have to entertain your kids. We need more time for real play. Building, manipulating, dramatic play, arts and crafts... not tablets. That may be true, but, following that logic, they should be still chiseling stone tablets instead of pencils or electronic tablets. Times move on and technology changes. We are a species that has always abandoned the skills of the past to participate in the future. You're young enough, do you really believe that those pencil pushers have finer motor skills then those that operate a controller for a video game. They have biceps on their thumbs and move at the speed of light during a game.
I LOVE ALDI. Ours has the freshest fruits and vegetables and their prices are so much better on the exact same items. I go to the regular supermarket for sliced deli meat and get everything else at ALDI.Scallops from AldiDo you have Aldi in your region?
I think it’s mostly parents letting kids play with their phones/tablets. If they’re actually buying their young kids $1,000 + electronics,Most young children these days play video games on tablets, rather than a console with a controller. Not that I know of, but, then again, I don't get out much.Scallops from AldiDo you have Aldi in your region?
There are down sides and up sides to every situation. I have a 7 year old granddaughter that has a more extensive vocabulary then I do. Her only source of entertainment has been a tablet. She also is heavily involved with Minecraft and is part of a YouTube channel with her older 16 year old sister. So, my belief is that even though this is a far cry from how I was brought up and probably yourself, when it comes to arts and crafts, it is what is current and the knowledge obtained from that is what will project them through the times that they are adults and living in an ever increasing electronics world. She still has play dates and even a boy friend (according to her). So social is not ignored completely just reemphasized and to a degree altered in it's definition. My parents were sure that my generation was going to hell in a hand basket, but, those of us that didn't decide to be politicians have come out just fine. So will they. Most young children these days play video games on tablets, rather than a console with a controller. Almost all of my kids have tablets. Very few have consoles. Seems like you don't have an Aldi in your area @GoofyernmostNot that I know of, but, then again, I don't get out much.![]()
I do not disagree. They will be fine and do as well as any previous generation. However, my original point was about fine motor skills. There are down sides and up sides to every situation. My point was that just like I don't know how to build a barn from cut timber like my ancestors did, it isn't important because I no longer have to know about that. I also think that same kids that are showing fine motor skills are doing so because in order to achieve what they want, they have to use them. I feel that motor skills are almost the same as breathing and heart beat except that that is involuntary. We all have our different standards and needs, but, we possess them to the degree we need them. If we need highly defined motor skills we will achieve them based on our basic needs. Even kids using tablets have to pick them up, they have to walk to them and they use them to whatever degree is required. I could never type until I was a Junior in High School. Before that I never had a need for that motor skill, but, when I needed it, it was not that big a problem to wake them up..I do not disagree. They will be fine and do as well as any previous generation. However, my original point was about fine motor skills.

Eat a banana.I got a crazy bad foot cramp last night. It took about 20 minutes for it to fully go away. Every time I moved the slightest bit it came back worse than before. I was even scared to go to sleep because I didn’t want it to wake me up. Well when I woke up this morning my foot was actually sore from being so cramped for so long and it’s STILL sore. I’ve never had this happen before - it’s soooo weird!
Jennifer you always know the perfect thing to sayEat a banana.
