Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Got pretty choked up this morning. Older one's history teacher is Air Force Reserve and he's being deployed. He's promised to keep track of what's going on with their class even though he'll be 10 hours ahead. They're throwing him a big send-off concert and pep rally today, but they also decided to deck out the school and put him in the Teacher of the Year spot up front...

What a beautiful tribute.

An Arkansas senator wants to cut lunch funding if schools don't improve their reading scores. This makes me sick. Many kids that are at risk in reading don't get food at home. How is cutting their only chance for food going to improve their reading scores? What kind ignorant person would propose this bill? Ridiculous!

Jaw drop. :jawdrop: Where to start on this one?!

Some years ago, I read about a lower income district of a large city (I can't recall what state). The school had low performing scores. Teachers noticed that some of the children weren't getting proper nutrition. The city initiated a free breakfast program, and within a few months, the scores trended upward.

I won’t eat 8 of these things - which surprisingly doesn’t include tomatoes, because I will eat them cooked or processed.

2 from the first column, 4 from the second, and 2 from the last:

I'm 8, 7 (8 if you count onions, which I will eat cooked, but not raw, and not on pizza), and 3 (4 if you count tomatoes, which I will not eat raw, 5 if you also count fish, which I will only eat battered fried cod)

My DS will pretty much not eat anything on this list with the exception of wheat bread, peas, milk, nutella, mayonnaise and white chocolate. He will eat chicken only if it's in nugget form, and he will eat beef in one particular dish (rendang), and he will also eat battered fried cod, but no other fish.

Um...what does reading have to do with lunch? If you are going to hand out consequences, they have to fit the "crime". Pretty sure starvation as a punishment counts as child abuse.

Can I just say that I'm positively giddy about the new design for the entrance to EPCOT?! There's plenty going on these days at WDW, but for some reason, I'm over the moon (as the expression goes ;)) about this one!!! :joyfull: It's not just that the graveyard is going away, but they're bringing back the fountains & sculpture at the base!

Spent the better part of the past 25 minutes reading every page of the thread about it--couldn't drag myself away! :hilarious:

Remember this beauty? What's old is new again!!! :joyfull:

Pretty much our entire "leadership" at this point. Perhaps, if we put fact in comic books they might see it.
Except when people look towards entertainment they’re mostly just looking to be entertained so they can forget about their own problems for a bit. Otherwise documentaries about all the world’s problems would be billion dollar blockbusters at the movies.

In short, people don’t look for entertainment that would make them more depressed.

I don't have a problem with people being entertained, but, that is not what we have been talking about. We have been discussing the ignorance of allegedly educated people that do not read anything other then entertainment so they are making decisions that are not based on reality. The are out of touch with reality, but, perhaps if factual information were in comic book form they might see something besides what they perceive is reality. The people in question might be more depressed, but, the rest of us might be able to get information that is important out to people that should know better.
