Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

So... we're here at Rock Springs, after a long uneventful drive in. The scenery can best be described as stark, but in an awe-inspiring way, if that makes any sense. We had planned to tour Flaming Gorge this afternoon, but DH is feeling a bit under the weather, so we've decided to just stay put here for now and maybe check out the town later this afternoon. I know he didn't sleep well last night and the altitude change may be getting to him, so we can tour the Gorge tomorrow. So no pics today boys and girls unless you want a photo of an oldish man snoring with a slight drool.

Elevation can really mess with your head. Many people need (up to) a week to acclimate. I know when I went to Colorado, it took me close to a week to sort of balance out (for lack of a better medical term). I'd wake up each morning with a (mild) bloody nose and the daily pressure (and lower oxygen) gave me headaches. I had classic symptoms of altitude sickness.

It can also throw off your normal sleep patterns. So if your hubs is tired and slightly out of sorts, just let him rest (off and on) for a few days. He'll feel better as he begins to adjust.

So today was primary day here. After work, hubs and I went to the local school (for our precinct) to vote. I was ticked off because they didn't have cupcakes. :banghead: They always have cupcakes (the parents in the school bake them, and the proceeds go to their PTA). What's this world coming to? Next time-- no cupcakes, no vote!! :p

The PTA always used to have a bake sale at my kids’ elementary school the night of elections. They stopped doing that years ago. It’s not nearly as fun to vote now.

It used to be fun, and people would sometimes hang out and chat, after voting. But tonight, with no cupcakes in sight, no one hung out. People just darted in and out of the school.

Felt bad for the cop stationed there--no cupcake, not even a cup of coffee. Yah, I know he's on "detail" and making some beaucoup bucks, but he might have been hungry. :(

As promised a few photos from today. The scenery left me speechless, and while we were down by the lake, a bald eagle flew along the cliffs. I had put the camera away at that point so I just watched him glide then soar to the skies.

Apparently this is why it's called the Green River...

We drove several miles and were just in awe of all that we saw.

We could see smoke rising on the horizon for many miles til we realized it was a small forest fire ahead:

It was nice to see the Aspens haven't turned color yet, although they are spectacular when they do:

We're thinking of going back tomorrow and checking out a few roads that we missed.

Voting is really important....maybe you could bring your own cupcakes next time to reward yourself for doing your civic duty? :p If you buy it yourself, you also get to pick out whatever treat you want...you aren't limited to cupcakes, or to whatever kind of cupcake the school are selling. You could get cheesecake, or cookies.....or you can have a cupcake of your choice and not have to take whatever is left over.

Beautiful!! It makes me homesick!! I'm from the complete opposite corner of the state, but I miss the wide open spaces where you can see for miles. Green River kind of makes me sad...my high school sweetheart was from Green River and we went to prom together junior year. (I met him at an accademic program the Summer before) We broke up when we went to college, and both got married to other people and had kids, but he was my first love. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2008. He had a two year old and a baby...it always makes me so sad to think about that. His poor kids and wife. But it is beautiful there...I love the pictures, even if I get a bit nostalgic from seeing them.

Yes, it was. Unfortunately it happens a lot. People often don't see motorcyclists until it's too late. He was hit by a semi that ran a red light. It was dark and the semi driver didn't see him and decided not to wait at the light because there was no one there. I'm sure that's a decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Just read in the local paper that the fire we saw yesterday burned over 2500 acres. Heading out that way now - it seems to be under control.
