Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Meant to mention that when I was in WDW 2 weeks ago, I saw plenty of poles for the upcoming gondola system. (With a gondola thread in N&R, this is not new news, but to actually see all the poles when I was there, made me pause.)

Although it may be a neat concept in theory, it was somewhat unnerving to see all these tall poles. Even though they're all spaced apart, it still diverted my attention away from other more familiar sights. Will be interesting to read about impressions from others here, once they also see it--and once they add the gondola vehicles.

My *hope* is that when the gondola cars are installed it will bring a kinetic energy reminiscent of the skyway cars and the poles will just blend - much as I am no longer bothered by the lack of scale in the additional stone walls around the castle.

To be fair, the monorail beams sans monorail are butt-ugly too, and yet we pay them no mind.

We’ll be seeing the gondolas constantly moving along the cables versus the intermittent monorails gliding by.

I’m not at all concerned.*

*Proven by the fact that I will hop in the backseat of any NY driver who calls my name. 😂

I'm thinking the same thing. I think the gondolas will be cool and (hopefully) easy to get used to once they're up and running.

I miss the Skyway--absolutely loved that. Maybe that's part of my hesitation :cautious: about this gondola thing.

If they used the style of the old Skyway cars (kinda like the ones they have now over at Blizzard Beach, going up Mount Gushmore), I might like the idea better. (Of course, I'd definitely change the colors to something more pleasing, than what they use over at BB, but the style is what I'm referring to below.)

Pretty, but not practical as a full fledged transit system. Kind of hard to load scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, entire families on these novelty type rides.

I just barely remember the old Skyway. I know we rode on it at least once during our 2-day trips in 91 and 92; but then we didn’t return until we took the boys in 2003, by which time they were gone.

Surprisingly, I can vividly remember the Sky Ride at Crystal Beach from my childhood way more clearly. My mom wouldn’t get on the gondolas to save her life, so I always rode with my dad. Over every bump, he would point up and remind me that our entire weight was being held by a single spot weld ... and the contract went to the lowest bidder. 😂 And then, he would rock the gondola a bit.

I can't believe I forgot about the ECVs, strollers, etc. Duhh . . . snap out of it, Minnie!

Oh well, it was a nice thought, nonetheless. :(

Tomorrow morning I'm heading out to visit my family for a week. I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't seen all them since Christmas.
Enjoy your visit.

Please thank your mom for me again.
5 weeks today. 😢

My hip was really bugging me today so Mike and I used the hot tub. While sitting there, I see one solitary solar light about 100’ feet away by the shed.

Me: Just one light?
Mike: For now.
Me: Is that where Holly is?
Mike: Yes. I don’t want her to be alone in the dark.

😂, but mostly 😢.
She was such a good dog. We all really miss her.

Hugs to you. It takes a long time to get over the loss of a loved (pet) member of the family. Because, pets really are a member of the family.

This morning, I took a second glance at this photo. What really stood out in the picture was the couple in the front car of the Skyride. The woman has on a dress and high heels--at an amusement park! :D

But then I recalled a photo (probably late 50s) in the family photo album, of my mother and father at Coney Island amusement park. She had on a cotton shirt-waist dress and low-heeled "walking" shoes (a style at the time). No shorts, no sneakers, etc. Other people in the background wore various outfits from dressed up to casual. (Some did have on shorts--with tucked in t-shirts, of course. ;) )
