Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I can't help but feel sad about that. From Peter, Paul and Mary playing sold out shows to playing at a restaurant. I remember once when a dump dive in Milton, Vermont had Kitty Wells (Queen of Country Music) playing there. She must have been in her 80's by then. You can't fall any further then that. From top of the game to a ditch. They also had Barry Sadler, singer and songwriter of "The Ballad of the Green Beret" near the end of his life. He died at 49 years old. Basically broke. It must be a long way down from the top. This bar was really nothing more then a place where people went to just get drunk.
Peter is so nice!!! They came to Laramie when I was in college and did a concert there one of the times we did Angel Action. (Counter-protest against Westboro Baptist Church/Fred Phelps.) They did a concert in the evening, and my brother took my mom, and they ended up having to stop or delay the concert because the elevation was causing Mary to get sick and she couldn't breathe. But my brother had back stage passes or had helped organize the show or something, so he got to hang out with them later, and the next day was the counter protest and Peter came by and thanked each of us for being there and called us his "angels". Well, we WERE dressed as giant angels, but he was just so sweet and genuine, shaking our hands and blowing us kisses as he left. He had made a point of stopping by just to say thank you to all of us on his way to the airport. I don't know how many celebrities would take the time to do that.

Peter always was dedicated to something or the other. Usually, very good causes. He did have a tendency on occasion to use their concerts as a pulpit for his views. Even when they coincided with our own opinions, we didn't go to the concerts to hear him pontificate on one passion or the other. I remember one where he was going on and on about Nicaragua, if I recall. Someone finally yelled from the audience.. Peter... shut up and sing. Kind of a contradiction there since shutting up and signing I would think would be difficult. He did and they continued on with the concert. They were always great though. Paul's guitar work and song writing was absolutely one of the best. Wedding Song (There is love) is probably the best example of both. And, of course, there will always only be one Mary.

This is our local haunted house - Yates Castle.

My mom babysat there as a kid, and certainly bought into the hype. Freaked herself right out. Even after becoming a Christian in the early 70’s, she still looked back on the times she spent there and said something was “off”.

Shrug. Except for God, I don’t generally believe in things I have not seen.

I know I've told this story before, but the first concert we ever brought DD too was a Peter,Paul, and Mary concert at our local summer theater. We were standing by the fence when they came out and he came over, gently touched DD's cheeks, and told her what a beautiful child she was. Tears rolled down my cheeks. Fast Forward 25 + years, and Peter was again performing (solo this time), and DD came with us. During intermission he was signing books, so DD bought one for him to sign. I told him the story of her first concert, and he took her hand and kissed it.

I didn't actually go to the concert, but considering that they were there specifically because of the Matthew Shepard murder, it wouldn't have been odd if he made some sort of speech about that, but I don't know if he did. I just remember Mary ending up in the hospital at some point because of the elevation and she had to get oxygen.
I didn't know Paul wrote The Wedding Song....I hate that one actually. I had to sing it for my friend's wedding and it is the most BORING piece of music to sing...the entire thing is almost entirely a series of B-flats. Nothing but B-flat. I guess it made it easy to learn, which is good, since I got the music the day before the wedding and only got to rehearse it twice beforehand. (I was off at college at the time and just came home for the weekend to sing in the wedding, and then I had to go back to school)

NATIONAL SORRY CHARLIE DAY
National Sorry Charlie Day is observed each year on April 6. This day encourages us to think about the times we have been rejected. Whether we’ve been rejected by a sweetheart or by a college, a prospective employer or by the bank for a loan, we’ve all been refused. National Sorry Charlie Day also gives us an opportunity to reflect on how we survived the rejection and what we learned from it.
