Apparently it took a long time to get the shark to actually swim 100m in a straight line.
From what I've read
The shark will actually be far ahead in the race, not only for Phelp's safety, but due to the fact there is just no way a human could keep up with shark speed. Toward the final moments, however, Phelps is going to somehow overtake the shark, as the shark seems to suddenly slow to a stop due to fatigue (?) Then Matt Ryan jumps out of the shark costume and says: "Surprise, America!"

So I heard on the news this morning (apparently, this is "news" . . . ) that a bunch of people were ticked off at Phelps and the Discovery Channel, for duping people into believing that he was going to swim adjacent to the shark.

What Discovery did was superimpose the shark swimming the distance on the screen, along with Phelps swimming (by himself--yet, I guess that wasn't clear as I think they had him in one of those shark cages--although, I didn't see the actual show.).

The only good thing about this debacle is that the shark won by two seconds.

Phelps said before the show that he wasn't actually in the water at the same time as the shark... that would just be dumb.

I'm curious how much influence Stranger Things pulled from Stephen King's novel, "IT". The premise looks very similar in both: A group of misfit kids bond together to defeat a supernatural being which takes the form of a (clown (IT) giant alien (Stranger Things).

I haven't seen Stranger Things yet other than the ad's, but probably need to, given it's positive feedback, and vast similarity to my favorite King story of all time (and only horror story I really like, outside of the classic Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.)

But tell me you don't feel a strong connecting theme between the two.

I honestly don't know if it's at all similar because I've never actually seen IT. I highly recommend Stranger Things though. It's the best show I've seen in years.
