Went to my neice's softball game and my daughter spotted this little guy in the parking lot:

Now keep in mind Long Island is heavily populated. This ball field is surrounded by houses on 2 sides and very main roads on the other two. We don't have free roaming turtles. He was clearly lost. We stayed with him at a respectable distance until he found his way back into the woods. I hope little Nathan (yes, Nathan, after the hot dogs) has found his way home.

You know what's funny?
I have a pounding headache and everybody not named Mike is irking the carp out of me, so the dog and I have gone upstairs early.

A hot cup of tea, two Advil, and an hour or two with Poirot should improve my disposition. If not, there's always booze.

I'm reading about George Washington's culper spy ring. So similar to your book.

A local neighbor of mine has been reborn! The Gatlinburg SkyLift suffered some damages during last year's wildfire. After being closed and repaired during the winter & spring, it reopened last month to the public. I've been meaning to go check out the new changes / upgrades since the fire damage, but have either been too busy, or it's been too rainy when I've had time to do so.

I took advantage of some free time this afternoon to take a spin on this renovated oldie but goodie.

Still a lot of work to be done, but at least the main ride is open.

Keep your body in the chair at all times. You may get wet if you fall out.

Shortly after crossing the river, you can see the old chairs formerly used for this ride prior to the wildfire. If you look to the far left row, you can see a few chairs which suffered the most damage due to the fire.

Going up...

You can really see a lot of the fire damage along the mountainside. As saddening as it looks, with loss there is also hope, as new plant life begins to take form in many areas.

Thanks for sharing your photos, and the encouraging news. :) I love chair lifts. Ever since I was a kid, it was such a thrill to ride them up North in NH and Vermont ski areas. (My family would go up there in the summer/fall months to ride, just for the joy of sightseeing in the mountains.) Gondola lifts have replaced many of the chair lifts over the years, but my favorites will always be the open chair lifts.

About the fire damage you referenced, give it a few years and most traces of the fire will be gone. Nature has an interesting way of healing itself.

So true. There's been a lot of regrowth already in just the past few months.
