Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I had a lot of fun at the chili cook-off today. Our team was very last minute. A couple teams had to drop out, so one of the pastor's and I formed a team to fill in. We ended up wining third place in people's choice. I'd say that was pretty good for being thrown together last minute.

This was the church gym when I arrived first thing this morning.

Here is our chili. It doesn't look too appetizing in this picture but it actually came out pretty good. And all things considered that's actually a little surprising. While we were cooking the chili my pastor was eating some M&M's and then he took a few of them and just thew them in the pot of chili. He's too funny. I guess that was our secret ingredient. :hilarious:

Congratulations!
I make great chili, but I prefer to make it a day ahead, chill it, then reheat it a couple of times before eating it. It lets the spices do their thing.

Congrats!

I really enjoyed it. I've been to the chili cook-of before, but this was the first year I was in a team. I want to do it again next year. The other great thing is that it's for a good cause. All the money goes to Hope for Hattiesburg. Our church, First Presbyterian, started Hope for Hattiesburg, and one of the big things it does is help repair the homes of needy families. That's particularly important now considering the tornado we had recently

My pastor just sent me this photo.

Have you ever tried Brunswick Stew? :hungry:
No, but I'll have mine with chicken please.

Recipes for Brunswick stew vary greatly, but it is usually a tomato-based stew, containing various types of lima beans/butter beans, corn, okra, and other vegetables, and one or more types of meat. Claims of authenticity call for squirrel, rabbit[1] or opossum meat, but chicken is most commonly used in modern versions.[2] Some versions have a distinctly smoky taste. Eastern North Carolina Brunswick Stew has potatoes, which thickens it considerably. Eastern Virginia Brunswick Stew tends to be thinner, with more tomato flavor and less smoky flavor.

It is rather good. And I'm guessing @Eric1955 will like it too. My uncle used to bring homemade Brunswick Stew up to the lake when we had family get together's many weekends growing up. There was also a place called Charlie Williams (now closed) which served some of the best Brunswick Stew I'd ever had. There are so many different variations of it...all good in my book.
