Oh my, @Nemo14 !! Looks like you're in a tranquil paradise. And I'm also glad that you photographed a number of pretty palm trees in the past few days. (Actually, until you mentioned it, I didn't have a clue that your avatar was a photo from the area you stay in down there--gorgeous!!)

It really is quite peaceful and tranquil in the morning. There's a big fountain in the pond that doesn't start up til around 7:30 in the morning, so I like to get out and walk around the pond before it starts so the surface of the water is like glass. We have ducks, otters, turtles, moor hens, and occasional gators in the pond as well as a few different water birds (herons and storks mostly). We've seen bald eagles here occasionally too.

The drawbridge to the place where we like to look for manatees was being repaired, so we looked for them from the other side of the river. The pictures not too clear, but there's one surfacing if you look closely:

The road to this spot is long and sandy, so we were being pretty careful getting out of there when we spotted something on top of the pole in front of us:

sure enough, another bald eagle!

All in all it was a great day, with a rather colorful ending:

I had a lot of fun at the chili cook-off today. Our team was very last minute. A couple teams had to drop out, so one of the pastor's and I formed a team to fill in. We ended up wining third place in people's choice. I'd say that was pretty good for being thrown together last minute.

This was the church gym when I arrived first thing this morning.

Here is our chili. It doesn't look too appetizing in this picture but it actually came out pretty good. And all things considered that's actually a little surprising. While we were cooking the chili my pastor was eating some M&M's and then he took a few of them and just thew them in the pot of chili. He's too funny. I guess that was our secret ingredient. :hilarious:
